KitGuru gets up close to Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition

Alienware showed its Area-51 Threadripper Edition at E3 and now as SIGGRAPH kicks off KitGuru has had the chance to get some photos showing the innards.

Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition will go on sale in Europe on 22nd August.

The standout feature is the eye-catching Centauri chassis and alongside that we have the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X CPU. Close behind that we have the price which starts at US$2,999 for which you get a mere 8GB of RAM, a 2TB hard drive and an 850W PSU.

If you want to buy Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition with a sensible specification you're easily looking at $4,000. Dell assures us they will update the options to include Radeon RX Vega graphics but in the meantime we shall have to settle for the RX580 shown in the photos.

As a passing comment, we really hope the cabling inside this epic PC will be tidied up in retail examples as it looks rather messy for such an expensive purchase.

  1. I knew it! AMD boasts value per dollar then the OEM’s turn around and screw that up by offering only 8GB’s of RAM in lower configurations.

  2. Why would you not expect them to offer an entry level system with lower RAM than higher spec? They offer the 16GB in package and then upto 64GB if you purchase RAM separate rather than having 20 different configurations. Not sure I see the issue here.

The real issue with this system is it’s ugly, oversized and overpriced anyways.

Quoting a photo on Facebook: only losers buy prebuilt systems

  4. So am I seeing the pictures right? This system supports quad channel memory but from the pictures it looks like it only has 1 stick of ram in it. What fool would buy this system with only 1 stick of ram in it which only supports single channel memory with that config.

i guess he means that for the price there should be more ram in it
