As someone who reports on the smartphone world regularly, surprises have become increasingly hard to come by. However, I can safely say that I did not expect to come across a KFC-branded smartphone today, this week, or ever. In partnership with Huawei, this week the KFC smartphone launched in China.
The phone itself is being released in China to celebrate 30 years of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Like most smartphones, Android will be the operating system of choice and 16GB/32GB storage options will be available. Huawei's KFC smartphone is red on the back, with a picture of the colonel himself.
The KFC branding on the outside isn't the only thing that helps this smartphone stand out though. As Kotaku points out, the phone comes pre-loaded with a music app that lets you pick the music inside China's KFC locations. There is also a pre-loaded KFC delivery app.
KitGuru Says: This isn't the wackiest thing I've seen to launch in China but it is certainly near the top of the list.
