AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and 1920X Unboxing

With AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper samples at hand, we wasted no time pulling them out of their box to see how the 12- and 16-core beasts look in the silicon. A processor unboxing may sound like one of the most boring pieces of content possible but it certainly is not. AMD has pulled out all of the stops for making the review samples and retail packaging of its new Ryzen Threadripper processors unique and undeniably premium.

Of course, no article showing the immense scale of a computer component would be complete without the obligatory banana for scale. Check out our photo gallery below.

You can read more details about AMD's upcoming 16-core Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and the 12-core 1920X HERE.

    Review date?

  2. The heatspreaders or so large! I may need to have two tubes of TIM or Liquid Metal!

  3. 10th most likely. Since they launch then.

  4. You don’t need to cover the whole thing, just the center. Any normal cooling plate should be plenty big (which is why an adapter bracket for all Asetek made AIO’s (which is a crap ton of them) is included right in the Threadripper box) and would use just the same amount of paste to cover it as it would mounted on any other chip. To quote the owner of Guru3D.com, Hilbert – “Surprisingly enough, AMD was spot on about that. It is not an issue. Placed my finger on the heatspreader surfaces that are uncovered by the LCS block, not even close to warm.”

  5. damn those are big CPU’s! I do love Intel, but their recent releases have been so boring and dull, this is the first launch for a CPU ive been really excited about. Not sure I need all those cores, but it sure is futureproofing a new system build.

  6. nice video Luke – thats some mega kit AMD sent KitGuru with their own logo on it too, very cool.

Be interested to hear your views again. ive been holding fire on an upgrade for some time but if you had asked me in 2014 about buying an AMD system again I would have been surprised- these however are such great looking value for money – if the performance is good. based on Cinebench so far, its certainly looking positive for AMD.

  7. Impressive Kit – did you find out if that is a real CPU or just a fake one in the clear presentation piece they sent KitGuru?

10th here we come! Hopefully these are good for 4k video editing. its what I need at a good price.

  8. Yes apparently the heat is transferred from the central section of the processor heatspreader. However – you just know some of the more ‘thorough’ enthusiast hardcore guys will want the whole thing covered, just for that extra 0.1%
