PUBG’s weekly and monthly patch schedule is being thrown out to maintain quality

In the months since the game’s initial launch on Steam Early Access, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has had a very tight patch schedule. There are weekly scheduled patches to help keep things ticking over and larger monthly patches to make bigger changes to the game. The development team has managed to keep this up for a good while but going forward, we will start to see wider gaps in patches, as the current schedule is being thrown out.

Bluehole has stressed that its Q4 2017 release window is still on track, so this isn’t any indication of a delay. However, the studio does want to spread updates out a bit more in order to maintain a “high standard of quality”. Interestingly enough, this follows a patch from earlier this month, which initially caused a number of issues for many players.

Writing in a Steam Community post, Bluehole studios explained its decision to change the patch schedule:

“Today we are changing our patch and update schedule to improve how we work on the game, as well as set realistic expectations for players. Until the official release of the game, we will not have our scheduled weekly or monthly patches rolling out as often as before. We’ve found internally that being rushed to finish certain features, and having shorter QA test time between pushing updates caused more issues than it solved in regards to maintaining a high standard of quality.”

While weekly patches will no longer take place, Bluehole will be utilising the PUBG test servers for longer periods of time and deploy patches/hotfixes when necessary. With this new system in place, Bluehole can spend more time testing new features and gathering feedback from testers before rolling them out into the full game.

KitGuru Says: I encountered many issues with PUBG following the last patch, which was honestly a first for me in my months of playing. With that in mind, I’m glad to see the developers are going to start taking more time polishing things up before rolling features out.

  1. Am they have more and more and more money.
Yet they are cutting back on their patch schedule.
That makes perfect sense. Its not like they haven’t
been able to do it for the last 5 months.
