MSI launches GTX 1080Ti Lightning Z

Today, MSI has officially launched the GeForce GTX 1080Ti Lightning Z. This is MSI's flagship graphics card and in the company's own words, it is “built to be perfect”, combining the tried and true Tri-Forzr cooler, Military Class 4 components and new SuperPipe technology to deliver an engineering masterpiece.

We had a sneak peak at the GTX 1080Ti Lightning Z at Computex earlier this month but today marks the official launch, as well as the full specification unveiling. As usual, the Lightning card is geared towards heavy overclocking, with a solid air cooler featuring three Torx 2.0 fans, and two ‘SuperPipes', which are essentially 8mm heatpipes rated for faster heat transfer. If you want to kick your overclocking up a level, then this card also comes with a special LN2 BIOS for extreme overclocking.

There will also be an MSI OC kit included, using V-Check points to help you measure GPU, memory and PLL voltages, temperatures and more.

With Military Class 4 components, The Lightning Z is built to offer stability, with DrMOS 60A power phases (the highest rated available), Hi-C CAP cores, Super Ferrite Chokes, and Solid CAPs. While this GPU is built like a tank, it also has MSI's Mystic (RGB) lighting, so it should look pretty too.

Here are the full specifications, including core clocks:

  • MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti LIGHTNING Z.
  • CUDA Cores: 3584.
  • Core Clock: 1721 MHz / 1607 MHz (Lightning Mode) 1695 MHz / 1582 MHz (Gaming Mode) 1582 MHz / 1480 MHz (Silent Mode).
  • Memory Clock: 11120 MHz (Lightning / Gaming mode) 11016 MHz (Silent mode).
  • Memory Size: 11GB GDDR5X.
  • Memory Bus: 352-bit.
  • Dimensions and Weight: 320*140*61 mm. 1707g.
  • LED: Mystic Light RGB.
  • Thermal Design: Tri-Frozr (3x TORX 2.0 Fans)
  • Power Connector 3x 8-pin.

KitGuru Says: MSI's lightning cards have always been high quality, so I'll be looking forward to seeing what the 1080Ti Lightning is capable of. Are any of you planning on picking up a GTX 1080Ti at some point? Have any of you owned an MSI Lightning Edition card before?

Starfield: Shattered Space launches to middling reviews

Just over a year ago, Bethesda Games Studios released Starfield – a ‘big space game’ which had been ruminating in Todd Howard’s mind for over 25 years. Despite its grand ambitions, the title saw a mixed reaction from fans, though positive critic reviews. Unfortunately, it seems as though Starfield’s first expansion ‘Shattered Space’ has failed to impress players on both sides.

  1. You know MSI’s marketing team has its shit together when it can order up a thunderstorm to wake me up at 7am in the morning, the town a few miles across had it even worse, they got a early sample of the card delivered for testing, thankfully no-one was hurt and the damage was minimal but that photo is pretty epic http://www.shieldsgazette.com/news/see-stunning-picture-of-moment-lightning-hit-street-1-8607404

  3. Don’t forget MSI mis-sold 1,000’s of their premium GT72 and GT80 laptops. MSI blatantly lied to customers that spent their hard earned cash with them. MSI is currently dealing with a class action lawsuit in regards to this. If you are affected by the mis-selling, have a GT72/GT80 and want a full refund, or just want to learn more, there are active threads on notebookreview and the overclockers uk forums. Or simply google MSI MIS-SOLD GT72 and GT80. Would you still trust them on a low value item like this GPU?
