Skull and Bones has had an incredibly turbulent development. After being delayed over half a dozen times and pushed back years beyond its initial release date, the multiplayer Ubisoft pirate game is finally actually launching on the 16th of February. That said, excitement surrounding the game has been minimal, but according to the company’s CEO, Skull & Bones will be more than worth its $70 asking price due to being a “quadruple-A game.”
As reported by VGC, during Ubisoft’s most recent fiscal earnings call, the publisher’s CEO ‘Yves Guillemot’ was asked about Skull & Bones’ $70 price tag, with one caller suggesting that the game should perhaps be free-to-play in order to attract the biggest audience possible. Guillemot dismissed the suggestion, saying:
“You will see that Skull and Bones is a fully-fledged game. It’s a very big game, and we feel that people will really see how vast and complete that game is. It’s a really full, triple… quadruple-A game, that will deliver in the long run.”
Of all the games to be considered AAAA, Skull & Bones is unlikely to be people’s first thought. That said, despite the middling impressions from previous betas, it is entirely possible that the game could exceed all expectations; selling 10 million copies in 2 days and becoming the next Fortnite. It’s highly unlikely, but we will have to wait and see.
