GTA V nears 200 million copies sold

For more than a decade now, Grand Theft Auto 5 has continued to sell like hotcakes, with the now-two-generation-old title consistently pushing further and further towards the 200 million mark. It seems as though the day is near, with Rockstar announcing that GTA V has now sold over 195 million copies.

As part of the company’s most recent fiscal report, Take-Two Interactive released updated sales stats for both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. As shared by industry analyst ‘DomsPlaying’ Grand Theft auto V has once again sold-in an additional 5 million copies since last quarter, putting the title dangerously close to 200 million copies sold (currently sitting at 195 million).

Assuming the game’s current trajectory continues, GTA V will likely have sold over 200 million copies by the time Take-Two Interactive release their next fiscal report.

Of course, though nowhere near as big a GTA, 2018’s Red Dead Redemption continues to climb up the video game best-sellers list, shifting an additional 4 million copies since last quarter to bring its total sales to 61 million. This makes RDR2 officially the 7th best-selling game of all time, surpassing the NES classic Super Mario Bros. (58 million) – and landing right underneath Mario Kart 8 + Deluxe (69.04 million).

Considering the fact that Grand Theft Auto VI is still quite a ways away – coming some time in 2025 – it's entirely possible that the game manages to sell over 225 million copies by the time its long-awaited sequel finally comes out. We will have to wait and see.
