Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds holds the highest peak player count of any non-Valve game on Steam

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been breaking a new milestone every couple of weeks since its launch. Not only has the game now surpassed five million copies sold but it has also gone on to become the most played non-Valve game on Steam, with just Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive sitting ahead of it.

Battlegrounds managed to hit a peak player count of 481,291 players in July. Previously, the record for highest peak player count on a non-Valve game was 471,955 and was held by Fallout 4. While PUBG has had a huge amount of concurrent players, it still has a long way to climb to beat out Valve’s own games, with CS:GO sitting at 850,485 peak players and Dota 2 pushing things even further to 1,291,328 peak players.

For those interested, here are the top ten games with the highest peak player records on Steam, according to Steam Charts:

  1. Dota 2: 1,291,328 players.
  2. CS:GO: 850,485 players.
  3. PUBG: 481,291 players.
  4. Fallout 4: 471,955 players.
  5. GTA V: 360,761 players.
  6. Payday 2: 247,628 players.
  7. No Man’s Sky: 212,321 players.
  8. Civilization VI: 162,314 players.
  9. Left 4 Dead 2: 161,590 players.
  10. Terraria: 158,947 players.

At this point, it seems that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is constantly growing, with one million new players picking up the game each month. If it continues on like this, then it may just end up competing with CS:GO for the number two spot eventually.

KitGuru Says: PUBG continues to be incredibly popular. I think it is also worth noting that PUBG is the very first Early Access game on Steam to break into the top ten peak players. It’s nice to see a studio rewarded like this for doing Early Access the right way, with a proper release roadmap in place and constant open communication.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. If i am honest the real shock is that No mans Sky is on the list! xD

  2. That was probably launch day and then the next day was 212 people lol

  3. same, i was like, really? “one man’s lie” is on this list.

  4. PUBG is nice but their anti-cheating system is horrible, i play against hackers almost every single game, they are ruining the experience for the majority of players https://pubghacks.me
