Blizzard has decided not to abandon the ‘Battle.net’ name after all

Just under one year ago, Blizzard announced that it would be rebranding Battle.net after 20 years. At the time, the company just changed out the app’s name to ‘Blizzard’ in order to follow the same theme as new services like Blizzard Streaming and Blizzard Voice. However, since basically nobody stopped calling it battle.net anyway, Blizzard is changing its mind and rebranding again.

Now, Blizzard’s game service will be referred to officially as ‘Blizzard Battle.net' there is even a new logo, which you can see below:

It was a bit of an odd move to ditch the Battle.net name, after all, it didn’t seem to hinder Blizzard’s success in any way. In fact, the name is so synonymous with Blizzard now that not even the people working there got used to the name change. Blizzard has explained its new decision in a blog post:

“When we announced that we'd be transitioning away from the Battle.net name for our online-gaming service, we suspected that the shift would be challenging. We understood that Battle.net stood for something special – it represents years of shared history and enjoyment, community and friendship, for all of us and our players. After giving the branding change further consideration and also hearing your feedback, we're in agreement that the name should stay as well”.
