If £800 is a little out of your price range for a new PC case, Phanteks has you covered with its new Evolv Shift and Shift-X cases. Although both cases fall in line with the tempered glass and aluminium craze, the Shift and Shift-X take PC tower form factor a little more vertical than usual.
Even though the Evolv Shift packs a tiny footprint just 170mm wide, 274mm deep and standing at a larger 470mm tall, it still packs enough room for a mini-ITX motherboard, SFX or SFX-L power supply and a full, 350mm long graphics card. It is split into two sections as the graphics card sits behind one panel of tempered glass, leaving the motherboard and power supply to sit behind another tempered glass panel on the other side.
Phanteks has designed the case with clean aesthetics and versatile configuration in mind, giving 360-degree accessibility for cable management and easy installation. In line with this, the anodised aluminium front and back panel can be easily removed, showing the powder coated steel inner frame.
Its small size still boasts room for dual 120mm AIO liquid coolers, with support for CPU air coolers up to 82mm in height. Case I/O is limited to two USB 3.0 ports, but peripherals should be easily accessible to plug in with the motherboard being rotated 90-degrees with its I/O facing up.
The Shift comes with two PCI slots, one internal 3.5 inch drive bay and room for three 2.5 inch drives, with two brackets included as accessories. Phanteks are also kind enough to provide one premium 140mm fan, a GPU bracket and a PCI-e x16 Riser cable. This, along with the Shift-X come kitted out with RGB lighting that not only synchronises with other Phanteks products, but interestingly links with MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB fusion and ASUS Aura sync as well.
The Evolv Shift-X gives a little more room, standing at a taller 650mm. This is a snug fit for a 240mm radiator in the front with a 120mm in the bottom or a single 280mm radiator. The extra space below the motherboard makes way for full ATX power supplies, up to 160mm.
There is a possibility to install a full custom liquid cooling loop with reservoir, to which Phanteks provide a pump bracket for just that. Along with all of the extras provided in the Shift, the Shift-X comes bundled with an extra 140mm fan, coming with a total of two, a power supply cover and an 8-pin CPU extension cable.
Both are readily available from Overclockers, with the Evolv Shift coming in at £104 and the Shift-X at £145, available in Satin Black and Anthracite Grey.
KitGuru Says: These are certainly an attractive pair of cases built with a design that fits anywhere from a workspace to the living room. What are your thoughts on the Shift and Shift-X? Are you due for an upgrade soon?
Two more amazing cases from Phanteks, they just don’t seem to be able to create a bad case. I’d love to build something in the shift-x but I have a feeling my fat-ass lazy cat would be able to knock it over when she sleeps on top of my PC. She loves the top of my Evolv when it gets warm.
