Razer launch its most customisable controller yet with the Wolverine Ultimate

The Razer Wildcat Gamepad was the company’s last Xbox/PC compatible controller, fairing well in our review, earning our Worth Buying badge despite coming in at quite a price. Today, Razer has announced its latest follow up with its highly customisable Wolverine Ultimate controller, tearing up setups this September.

The Razer Wolverine Ultimate comes at a premium price of $160/€179.99, matched with premium features to match. The company claim that this is the most customisable Xbox controller yet, with three different kinds of removable thumbsticks, six remappable triggers, two directional pads and, surprising to no one at this point, integrated RGB lighting.

The new RGB lighting strip makes full use of Razer Synapse on both PC and Xbox, bringing Chroma to console for the first time. Also included with the controller is the first Razer Chroma SDK for a console peripheral, allowing developers to program intricate lighting in with their games.

The Wolverine boasts an onboard quick control panel, enabling users to swap programmable button profiles on the fly as well as the ability to instantly turn on “hair-trigger mode”, in which the actuation distance is shortened.

Two paddle triggers are attached on the underside of the controller that can be completely remapped, alongside the two main triggers and shoulder buttons to suit the needs of the user. As expected, the handles feature non-slip rubber grip to make sure the chance of you breaking it by dropping it is minimised. Just don’t go throwing it in a fit of rage.

KitGuru Says: Although the RGB trend is still running strong, many still don’t buy into the hype and I can’t say I blame them. That being said, it’s nice to see console users get an opportunity to customise their kit, especially if developers provide unique lighting schemes and game integration. What controller do you use? Will you be upgrading to a Wolverine next month?

  1. Will I be upgrading…at £160+? I like my nice things and it does look very nice but I think I’ll pass.
