AMD finally unveiled the RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56 a few days ago but official reviews won’t be going up for a little while longer. While reviewers won’t be able to share their findings, a source this week claiming to have an RX Vega 56 in hand has revealed some gaming benchmark numbers up against a GTX 1070, showing performance in DOOM, Battlefield 1 and more.
A report on Tweaktown claims to have the scoop on RX Vega 56 benchmarks. The site says it has ‘an industry source’ with access to the RX Vega 56 already, who tested the GPU in DOOM, Battlefield 1, Civilization VI and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, all at 2560×1440 up against a GTX 1070.
In Battlefield 1, the ‘Ultra’ preset was used, with the RX Vega 56 reportedly scoring just over 95 frames per second. The GTX 1070 on the other hand managed 72 frames per second. While the report doesn’t explicitly state that DX12 was used, this appears to be more in line with GTX 1070 DX12 scores, rather than DX11.
In DOOM, the RX Vega is listed as scoring j101.2 frames per second with the GTX 1070 at 84.6 frames per second. This game was run at Ultra with 8x TSAA but unfortunately, it does not state whether or not the game was run in Vulkan, DX12 or DX11. Either way though, it’s another win for AMD’s new $399 Vega.
COD:IW was running on its High preset, in this game, the RX Vega 56 is listed as scoring 99.9 frames per second while the GTX 1070 managed 92.1 frames per second. Finally, in Civ VI, Vega got 85.1 frames per second while the GTX 1070 scored 72.2 frames per second.
Now it’s worth pointing out that we can’t verify these results just yet, so we won’t know how accurate these numbers are until review samples come in. However, if these scores turn out to be right on the money, then AMD’s RX Vega 56 could overthrow the GTX 1070.
KitGuru Says: If these RX Vega 56 scores are the real deal, then AMD will be in a very good position to compete with the GTX 1070. The RX Vega 56 is the cut down version too, meaning the RX Vega 64 should be even stronger and will hopefully prove to be a good competitor to the GTX 1080. AMD RX Vega 56 gaming benchmarks and GTX 1070 comparison shows up online
If GTX 1070 scored 72 in their BF1 test then Fury X should be around 81 while Vega 56 is allegedly at 95. It’s not a bad result if true. Maybe Vega 56 is the only card worth getting if it’s near GTX1080 at $399.
Please show the the RX Vega + GTX 1070 FPS in a table and add percentages. The data presented as it is now is hard to scan through to see the difference.
If these score are spot on then the RX Vega 56 is looking to be a good card for the price and the RX Vega 64 being the full chip should be able to match or beat the 1080 and come in some where in between the 1080 FE and stock 1080Ti not to bad of a result if this is the case.
Of coarse you will get those that will say oh but Pascal is over a year old blah blah blah. I say so what yes AMD was late to the party but hey they finally made it and it looks like they have some new cards that will give you a good gaming experience and a smooth one at that. I say it was well worth the wait and it is good to see some competition in the GPU sector again at the high end level.
This isn’t really shocking because rx vega 56 and rx vega 64 should be within 5% to 15% of each other separated by a hundred bucks.
since when is the Fury X faster than a 1070? A 1070 is about 980TI level… so a Fury X isn’t faster… it’s between 980 and 980TI level… so it’s not faster… Maybe with DX12… But i have a normal Fury. And using DX12, makes the game unplayable due to horrible FPS fluctuations…
in these 4-games, on average the alleged Vega card is 43% faster than the 1070.
DOOM doesn’t have DX12 or DX11 so it’s Vulkan or OGL and I’d assume Vulkan as that tends to favor AMD cards – at the very least that’s what AMD themselves have used so far to demonstrate Vega performance.
You are actually wrong, the Fury X aged better than the GTX 980 Ti and sometimes matches and outperforms the GTX 1070
I have yet to find the benchmarks that show the Fury X beats the 1070…
no way
Even the Fury beats the 1070 in some cases as well.

Just check all the pages, while it does not happen very often, it does happen, the Fury series are underrated.

This is a Battlefield 1 benchmark just like the current article allegedly says was tested with the new Vega. Fury X is faster than GTX1070 in Vulkan and DX12.
Vega and future GPUs have DX12 and Vulkan in mind… So retesting them is always going to be done since those low-level APIs are continually being improved and updated unlike DX11 and below & OpenGL. AMD’s strategy seems to be a long-term focus on those APIs (which they are pushing on consoles) so it’s not surprising earlier architectures (GCN) would have an increase in performance. I’m going to assume that AMD isn’t gunning for higher FPS, but to maximize MINIMUM FPS.
Since when does Battlefield 1 support Vulkan API…
Since when does bf1 use vulkan?
if that is true then the Vega 56 is already handily beating the 1080.. can this be accurate?
If all this is true, AMD are responsible for the biggest dick sandbagging trick in GPU history.
Where did i state anywhere that BF1 uses Vulkan? All i said is a statement that Fury X is faster in Vulkan and DX12…….
damn you look dumb
the 1070 is just about the same card as a 2015 titan x maxwell
1100% agreed dude, from what I am seeing, I think the vega 64 will beat the 1080 and compete with the 1080 ti
Just more hype…
38% faster for GTX1080 FE than a standard GTX980Ti and you think your Strix variant is going to close that gap?
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1070/24.html
WRONG!! Look at the benchmark I linked that averages many games. Different variants aside for now, the GTX1080FE is 38% faster than a GTX980Ti and the GTX1070 is almost 14%.
Why people always feel a need to cherry-pick to justify their purchase baffles me.
here is my 980 ti in Ghost Recon vs 1080, what do you say to this ? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fb55d7dd653dc535417e36503671a7cdda58eb4ab46c91e472daaa60b64cbc28.png

that 38% you came up is kind of hard to swallow, let alone that 1070 result https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/2a7cd45762403d23820f97cfac27bf6079875f47b95541a1e515a97976cb7262.jpg
nothing better than to own the GPU and do your own testing 😀
