AOC shows off new AGON 3 gaming monitors, 4K/144Hz and Ultrawide 200Hz

At Gamescom today, we had a chance to catch up with the folks at AOC, who showed us their new AGON III range of monitors. With this latest range, AOC is looking to combine top picture quality with high refresh rates all at competitive pricing, with the star of the show here being a 4K/144Hz monitor.

There are four new AGON 3 monitors hitting the market. The first is a 4K/144Hz display with G-Sync and HDR, meanwhile the second is a 3440×1440 ultra wide display running at 200Hz. Both monitors sport G-Sync and HDR 10, so you should get the best colours possible in a gaming monitor right now.

From there, we will also get two 1440p monitors, one sporting FreeSync and the other with G-Sync.

The AOC AG273UG is the 27-inch 4K IPS panel running at 144Hz. It features Quantum Dots, HDR 10, 100 percent DCI-P3 colour space and 1000 nits peak brightness. Meanwhile, the AOC AG25UCG is the 35-inch ultra-wide display, featuring a curved VA panel running at 200Hz. This monitor also features Quantum Dots, HDR, 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage and 1000 nits peak brightness. However, it does miss out on FALD technology, which comes with the 4K/144Hz panel. This essentially means that the 4K panel will have a better contrast ratio.

The AOC AG273QCX is a 27-inch 1440p TN monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate and FreeSync 2. Meanwhile the AG273QCG is a 27-inch 1440p TN curved monitor featuring G-Sync and a 165Hz refresh rate. Both of these monitors sport an ultra low 0.5 ms response time, curved screens, a wide colour gamut and HDR. The FreeSync model costs 599 euros meanwhile the G-Sync comes in at 699 Euros.

All four AOC Agon 3 monitors are set to begin hitting the market between April and August of next year. Pricing for the 4K/144Hz and 35-inch 200Hz monitors have yet to be confirmed.

We had a quick chat with AOC’s product marketing chief for Europe, Alfonso Clemente, who told us that the goal with these monitors, was to provide options that make no compromises between picture quality and refresh rate: “Until now gamers had to choose between picture quality or refresh speed. With AGON III they can now have everything at the same time – at a competitive price”.

KitGuru Says: I've quite recently become a big fan of ultra-wide displays, so the fact that 200Hz native refresh rate panels are coming makes me very happy. What do you guys think of AOC's new Agon 3 monitors? Are you currently waiting to upgrade?

  1. That muddies the AOC 27″ Gsync waters some, the new AG273QCG VA or the AG271QG IPS. Both are 165hz and 1440P but the response time and HDR support are going to be better on the new model with both coming in roughly the same price. I’m looking for a new monitor at the moment for my GTX1080 at the moment and I just can’t pull the trigger, every time I seem to make my mind up something else catches my eye. At the moment I’m torn between a higher refresh rate 1440p to replace my current 60hz TN and an Ultrawide as I love my driving sims, open worlds and fps. But at high refresh rates do you even need G-Sync? Would you notice a screen tear at 165hz argh so many questions.. off to do more research ; )

  2. I got acer x270hu inch 1440/144hz ips with g-sync . Problem is with quality at this price. Plenty of bleed and some monitors like mine have problem with picture sometimes. Only option is too turn off monitor and on .How to describe it, picture rolls on itself. I got fragment of left side monitor on right .I do not know how to explain this better. My friend have similar monitor from asus, the same problem occurs but less often in his case.

  3. The only thing holding me back from upgrading my tired 7 year old computer to a Threadripper+1080Ti badass now is the availability of either X35, PG35VQ or AG25UCG. Which one will be available in stores first?

  4. You did not say whether the Ultrawide one is IPS, VA or TN. If it is NOT IPS, count me out.
I have decided on XR382CQK from Acer, which has got FREESYNC, but costs a whooping 1400 CHF (about $1600). It is IPS ultrawide behemoth, 38 inches and with 75Hz at resolution of 3840×1600.
With that, I’ve decided Vega 64 and with a EK waterblock as well as one new radiator to go in my waterloop.

  6. It’s because of AU optronics panels. Every high refresh rate IPS screens are awful.

  7. I am in the same boat but I refuse to give money to Vega because its appalling. I am thinking Ryzen but I will not go AMD for the life of me. I might just have to sacrifice. Not purchasing until end of September so maybe there are some decent releases coming by the end of the year.

  8. I refuse to buy nVidia Pascal because I already have a Maxwell card, and Pascal is a “Maxwell on speed”. I said it on every other comment section, and I will repeat – i do not support brute force, but only innovation. Pascal is a brute force, Vega is innovation, end of debate. I am not gonna pay for any G-Sync monitor if there is a Free alternative to variable refresh rate.

  9. Well lah dee dah! Such impressive conviction. That’s a pretty short soap box you’re standing on there champ, and look, the town square is empty. End of debate.

  10. I would rather have a 5120×2160 monitor than a 3440×1440 with 200HZ but that’s just me

  11. Your comment was highly unnecessary. He has his reasons, you have yours. Leave it at that. This isn’t a chatroom to put other people down but to discuss the subject material and related content. Your bashing his fair opinion is winning your…”cause”, for lack of a better word, nothing. In fact, you haven’t even stated anything constructive at all. As WhiteSkyMage commented, brute force tactics are child’s play. Grow up.

  12. No.

    I’ll allow it.

Personally, I’d rather not see Intel have such a monopoly over the market because it spurns growth. Supporting AMD isn’t foolhardy, it’s allowing another company who’s products are competitive to stand against a larger company in order to encourage fair prices. It works out better for everyone. You can give your money to whoever you please, and so can I and he. AMD has my support as far as CPU’s go, though Coffee Lake is looking pretty tempting. I’d still take Nvidia over Vega. Regardless, the argument stands.

As far as your attitude goes, you seem to be pretty damn bitter about things you cannot control. Stop trying to control other people’s minds. Your approach is damn terrible anyways.
