Earlier this week, AMD finally confirmed that it would be launching the RX Vega graphics card at the end of this month. The reveal is set to take place at SIGGRAPH, which kicks off on the 30th of July. However, we won't have to wait that long to get a better idea of performance as a fresh leak this week has shown AMD's RX Vega GPU benchmarked and pitted against Nvidia's high-end Pascal lineup.
Over on the 3DMark database, a new benchmark entry was discovered under device ID ‘687F:C1', which we know to be one of the upcoming RX Vega GPUs. This particular model comes with a 1630MHz core clock with an 1890MHz clock speed on the HBM2. While running 3DMark 11, this particular RX Vega version scored 31,874 points, which is around 15 percent faster than a GTX 1080 but still some ways off the performance of a GTX 1080Ti.
Still, this is a big improvement over past benchmark leaks, which pinned the RX Vega closer to a GTX 1070 in performance. The extra tweaking over the last few months appears to have allowed AMD to squeeze a significant amount of extra performance out.
That said, it is important to note that this is still an early benchmark, so it may not end up fully representing the final product. This was also a synthetic benchmark, rather than a true in-game test. Still, with RX Vega now so close to launching, the leaks should start to be more accurate.

Are you kidding me? So this is likely an engineering sample pre-FE edition of AMD’s Vega which will likely be cheaper card, where it’s beats on overall performance and still isn’t impressive?? r u mad?
I want Vega to be a success but posting leaks lol? the hope is strong in you. Why not post the exhaustive testing that GamersNexus have done on the real live card. BUT THAT’S NOT A GAMING CARD THEY CRY IN UNISON…. no its not (technically it is), but it is the real live ONLY Vega architecture which pegs it somewhere around a GTX1070 at this moment, before AMD works its Driver magic…. But I’ll be very surprised if the improvements are on the scale we all have our fingers crossed for. Which leaves one thing, a really competitive price. Go AMD.

All I meant was that the aftermarket 1080’s are clocked quite a bit higher. Doesn’t look like we’ll have long to wait now to find out for sure 🙂
AMD must have a whole lot of cash if they are managing to fab two whole lines of VEGA chips, that is mightily impressive. Huge marketing disaster, they could have avoided all this confusion by naming this mythical NOT-A-GAMING chip anything but VEGA?.

You can’t afford me j/k. Stop being so touchy, I’m waiting and hoping just as much as the next man though I applied a liberal dose of common sense and bought a GTX1080 2 months ago.
Accept it for what it is which is something like a GTX1070/1080 which is bloody brilliant, now lets see the price which will be the cherry on the cake and AMD have potentially done a really good job. I’ll be happy and would pick one up for a project later in the year.
Marketed gaming and gaming capable are two different things. FE Vega is gaming capable, the equal of RX Vega. will there be driver update before RX Vega launches? Definitely. Will they drastically change performance? Don’t count on it. The AMDd river team and put 80% of it’s resources into those for 6 months, little will change in a single month. There is very little gaming performance improvement over Fiji clock for clock as shown by Gamers Nexus, sometimes even performing worse.
This is great news as pricing will pitch it $200-300 lower than the 1080ti if it’s not AMD will be making a huge mistake as in under 2 to 3 months nvidia will have their new cards out making this card over 25% lower performing than the 1180 or whatever they are called 😉
If amd haven’t optimised their drivers for this product so close to the launch this will be a marketing disaster but if this is not as good as a 1080 it needs to be 200 under the ti price (only reason I’m considering changing is for free sync benefits
Before anyone shame AMD note that it’s under Nvidia favored dx11, not Amd favored dx12.
Price it under $400 and the Etherium miners will snatched them all up and it will be months before it gets into the hands of the gamers that want it.
I still don’t understand what those leaks are for. The bigger card in line or just some random vega gpu?
I mean if this is the top of the line the vega is not looking that great. Of course the competitive price will help this gpu to get it’s market share but I was expecting a hit above the 1080Ti till nvidia get it back and then amd get it back etc. Like the old times.
Maybe not, high clock speeds do not always translate to good mining efficiency, that is the reason why the 1070 isnt popular with miners as the performance dwindles in comparison to the cheaper 1060 and 470
You had unrealistic expectations. I still don’t quite get how anyone even thought that AMD would be able to beat the 1080Ti with Vega. Maybe it was the “poor Volta” thing, maybe it was the TFlop numbers, I dunno, but I predicted it would be between 1070 and 1080 performance, so for it to be between 1080 and 1080ti is actually quite good.
I also don’t get why people think this looks bad for AMD. They now have a high end offering that can run games at 4K60FPS. As long as it can do that, I really don’t care about how it compares to 1080Ti performance.
Pricing is going to be the determining factor. If they can manage $399, then this card is amazing.
there will be 3 versions of Vega: Core, Eclipse, and Nova. we don’t know which of the 3 are these leaked benchmarks. it can be the Core which is the low tier. Nova is to compete with 1080ti, so i don’t think it’s that. let the gpu’s come out first, and then we will see if it can beat the 1080ti or not. the leaked prices are $400, $500, $600. the leaked prices for Ryzen cpu’s are spot on, so there are high chances for leaked prices to be spot on too
I honestly don’t know why I have those expectations. I’m not even interested in high end gpus. I was always the X850 range guy and now I could love a 570, to replace my 7850.

AMD are not fabbing anything, they outsource that to other companies.
You are writing total BS, three version Nova, eclipse etc are total made up bs by one random guy on Reddit and that’s it, so stop spreading this nonsense
To be honest, I never expected AMD to beat out Nvidia’s 1080 Ti. The only thing really you can hope for is how close can AMD get to Nvidia while still remaining $200-300 cheaper. Their Thread-Ripper is starting to lose steam as well once they released the pricing for them. They became their most expensive CPU starting at $800+ and still no official benchmarks on those either.
It’s great that AMD is trying to piss off the top dogs by getting close to the top end products and then drop price $200-300. It really makes the market competitive. However, for one to believe that AMD will surpass them while still remaining cheaper…is a distant dream.
Don’t forget Molten Core, Solar Eclipse, and Super Nova…Those are also on the AMD horizon…
This isn’t enough to win me over, i’d rather pay the extra for a gtx1080 saying as nvidia do a great job releasing drivers on time and nvidia experience software provides so many great tools such as shadowplay. Anyone on a budget looking to build a gaming pc, I can see this being a great oppertunity though
Amd drivers are better and more stable than Nvidia’s. Nvidia has regularly broken cards with updates over the past 10 years. Just saying
