Intel’s 8th generation CPUs are going to be revealed this month, release later this year

Intel is having a busy week, not only has the company announced the launch date and specs for the rest of its Core i9 CPU lineup but it has also announced that soon, it will be showing off its 8th generation core processors for the first time. We have been hearing bits and pieces of information regarding Coffee Lake for a while now but in just a few weeks time, Intel will be making things official.

In a news release sent out today, Intel said that it will unveil the 8th generation Core processor family live on Facebook, timing it with the US Solar Eclipse. Intel will have “those who are at the centre of creating this technology” speak on the day to explain what this latest microarchitecture update improves.

Over the last few weeks, rumours have claimed that Intel’s 8th generation CPUs will see Core i5 and Core i7 parts jump to six-cores for the first time. Intel may also be planning to produce six-core 8th gen chips for laptops too. Unfortunately for those perhaps looking to upgrade from Kaby Lake, according to ASRock, Intel’s Coffee Lake CPUs won’t support the Z270 platform, requiring a new motherboard.

At Intel’s official live unveiling of Coffee Lake, we will hopefully get confirmation or denial on some of those rumours, ahead of Intel’s planned launch for this holiday season. The live stream starts at 8AM PDT on the 21st of August, which will be 15:00PM here in the UK and 16:00PM in the rest of Europe.

KitGuru Says: Intel seems to be making a big show of its 8th generation CPU launch, so it will be interesting to see what it has up its sleeve. Will you be tuning in on the 21st of August? Even if you miss the live stream, we’ll be sure to have coverage here.

  1. I dont think anyone cares any more, Intel release a new CPU every fortnight and its 100mhz faster on a different socket so you have to buy a new motherboard.

    ~Go threadripper!

  2. The 8700K will be 6/12 up to 4.70GHz. Using multi core turbo it will have MultiThread perfornance of 1700X (56% better than 7700K) and 1-2 core perfornance up to 5% better than 7700K(asauming no IPC improvements)
It will undermine the entire Ryzen 7 lineup including 1800X especially when OC to 5GHz All-Core while 1800X cant do more than 4.1GHz.

  3. Time to sell my 5820k i guess

  4. Yea paper release august 21 then hard launch a few months down the road. Just a ploy to deflect from AMD’s Ryzen and the about to be released ThreadRipper. Unless these CPU’s are priced right and not Intel’s normal over prices they will be just a ripple in the stream. Of coarse every reviewer will make a huge fuss over them and call them the holy grail of CPU’s.

Lets not forget Intel according to strong rumors from Mainboard makers is that these new CPU’s will require yet another new mainboard to be bought just to run them.

  5. A bit weak on the argument there. You’ll need to buy a new motherboard for Ryzen anyway. So, stay with Intel till September and get the 8700K.

  6. 6c/12t

  7. Got to factor price/performance.

  8. I thought i heard the 6 cores wore going to be single thread.

  9. single thread sorry

  10. No reviews or proper info so claiming any of what you have is silly too say the least (if were being diplomatic).

  11. Actually if you go for the Ryzen at least you know you will be getting socket support for at least 2 more Ryzen versions in the future unlike Intel which likes to switch sockets like people change their shorts and force you to buy a new mainboard with every other CPU release.

I got a friend that just bought a Z270 board and a I7 7700K about 5 months ago and was already looking forward to the Canyon Lake 6/12 core CPU’s about to be released. When he found out his board most likely will need to be replaced just after getting it he basically said Frack Intel he is going AMD Ryzen+ or Threadripper+ on his next upgrade because he just spent a fair amount of money on a platform that was made dead by Intel with only 1 CPU cycle release.

This is coming from a die hard Intel fan boy he has never used anything but Intel in all of his gaming systems. If Intel can piss a die hard fan boy off to the point of going AMD maybe Intel should be thinking that their business practices are bad. Myself I own all Intel CPU’s and a mix of AMD and Nvidia Graphics cards & I am going AMD on my next CPU upgrade because I got caught in the same boat as my friend and Intel Switched sockets after only a short life span of the socket.
