Smartwatches aren’t dead yet- Apple may launch Apple Watch 3 next month

While the smartwatch market has certainly slowed down over the last year, that isn’t deterring Apple from continuing to invest in it. So far, we have seen two Apple Watch iterations and it looks like we could see a third as soon as next month. Reports this week claim that the Apple Watch 3 will be announced alongside the 2017 iPhone, though it won’t feature many upgrades.

According to noted KGI analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, LTE connectivity will be the big ‘standout’ feature for the Apple Watch 3. According to Bloomberg, Apple has signed a deal with Intel to supply the LTE modems for the next generation Apple Watch.

KGI’s analyst report also claims that 3G connections won’t be supported, so you will need to be in an area with 4G connectivity, which limits the number of markets this feature can be used in. However, LTE connectivity could potentially impact battery life (it sure does for my iPhone), so Apple may need to place limitations in order to keep battery life up.

As far as design changes, the Apple Watch 3 should look exactly the same as the current Apple Watch, with the same 38mm and 42mm display sizes.
