Target Open Day lets independent resellers get hands-on with new tech

Target Components runs an open day every year that gives over 200 of its retail customers a chance to get hands-on with the latest technologies. KitGuru always presents at the event, sharing market insights and top line information from our local research studies – as well as data from the pan-European studies we conduct as part of the European Hardware Association. Here's a quick overview of the tech we saw on show today.

Currently being taken through its paces in the KitGuru Lab is the massive C700p from Cooler Master. This represents the third generation of Cosmos Chassis and it's certainly a significant evolution from the original model. Expected to launch in the UK on 28th September with a price that could edge just north of £250, this fusion of curved/tempered glass and aluminium was drawing a lot of attention.

The sheer number of fans promises serious airflow – so it will be interesting to see the results. C700p being demonstrated here by Katie Pinnock, Cooler Master's UK Country Manager.

Cory Lees is the marketing guru behind the event, so we asked him which products drew his eye.

“I do all of our videos and podcasts so, for me, products like the Trust USB Studio Mic kit are really interesting”, he explained. We'd have to test the audio quality to give an opinion, but the microphone and stand have a satisfyingly heavy feel to them.

Gigabyte were out in force as well, with a huge stand. Nigel Sutch, Gigabyte's UK Country Manager, told us, “As well as our major customers, we also work hard to enable thousands of smaller specialists across the country. The Target Open Day gives us a chance to meet hundreds of our customers, to show off our latest products and get a grass-roots feel for ways we can improve our offer even more”.

The most popular product on Gigabyte's stand seemed to be the Aorus GTX 1070 Gaming Box, which plugs into your laptop for a serious gaming performance boost.

Before leaving the event, we stopped at the Tenda stand for a quick chat with General Manager Jason Zhao and Sales Director Kalam Meah. We were drawn in by the rather confident claims that the ‘Nova' system being showcased is the most powerful mesh networking system in the world. In light of our recent, definitive article on the subject – it's an ambitious claim and one which we look forward to testing.

KitGuru Says: Overall, the Target Open Day is a thoroughly enjoyable event and it's clear to see how useful this event is for independent computer stores. With the addition of Cooler Master's C700p, there was even ‘unreleased product' on show!
