Player’s can scale the amount of narration in Biomutant

THQ Nordic debuted gameplay footage of its upcoming open-world action-RPG at Gamescom this year, showcasing the beautiful world of Biomutant. One thing you might have noticed is the overzealous narration, but don’t worry, developer Experiment 101 has you covered with options to turn him down.

Although the narration can’t be turned off completely given the ties to the story, the cheerleading and other idle commentary can be reduced manually in the settings. Aside from the option to manually decrease the frequency that the narrator speaks, Experiment 101 has also implemented an automatic decrease in narration via your play time.

“Each session, the conversation that's dynamic decreases,” Stefan Ljungqvist told Eurogamer. “So if you play one hour and start your second hour on the same session, we decrease the frequency. If you play 10 hours of the game, the default frequency gets lower and lower.”

Explaining the narrator’s ties to the story, Ljungqvist revealed that he is in fact a character as well as a tool for exposition. “He's contextual to combat scenarios, but also to the world. He'll start talking about the world around you and where you are at that moment. He also narrates what the other characters say, because they speak mumbo-jumbo [i.e. they mumble a non-discernable language].”

Biomutant has yet to be allocated a release date, but is expected at some point next year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

KitGuru Says: I personally find the narration quite charming and think it adds a flavour that would otherwise be lost to a made-up language. That being said, I know plenty of people that would get irritated by such a thing so giving player’s the choice is a fantastic move. What do you think about Biomutant’s narration?
