Raptr is closing down for good one year after being dropped by AMD

This week, the PC gaming service ‘Raptr' announced that it would be shutting down at the end of this month, just one year after AMD officially dropped support for the app. Raptr has been around for close to ten years and for a while, it also came bundled with Radeon GPU driver updates as AMD's alternative to Nvidia's GeForce Experience.

For years, Raptr was used as a third-party game optimisation tool, which would tweak individual game settings based on which GPU you had in your system. Now as Raptr founder and CEO, Dennis Fong, explains, independent platforms for optimisation tools are “no longer necessary”.

Raptr didn't just help with game optimisations though, it would also track game achievements across platforms. You could link up your Steam, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network accounts to track games, achievements and more. There was also a points system involved, which you could use to enter giveaways etc.

Raptr is still alive for the next couple of weeks but from the 30th of September 2017 onwards, the service will no longer be active.

KitGuru Says: It seems being unbundled from AMD's GPU drivers may have been a big hit to Raptr's user base. Still, with ten years under its belt, the service had a good run. At one point, the app even had over 1 million registered users. Did any of you use Raptr or continue to use it now? How do you feel about it shutting down?

    I only installed it for those rewards, I have to say however that the achievements comparison it was nice.

    eh well “unannounced” is not truth. You just hit next and next in the installer without looking at anything else, didn’t you 😛

  6. I used it to track gameplay hours. did the same thing with xfire before.

  7. actually geforce exp is useful in that, it can help you from having to edit files manually to get DSR working in games like RocketLeague where, in game menus do not show res above native even if you set your desktop at the res you want to play at.. (fullscreen=native res or lower)

    gfe though unlike raptr dosnt have alot of the extra bs, i mean, there are/where things i liked about raptr but their support/updates are why amd dropped them(they could never get their overlay to not cause problems, and since its enabled by default by their installer… yeah….amd dropped them…)

    sucks though, i had a bunch of points from playing games with it installed, should have gotten random keys/chances at random keys when i had the chance..

  9. since when can nvidia cp edit game ini files to allow games that do not list higher then native res, even with dsr/vsr enabled, to list and run in higher then native res? and since when?

    last i checked, (like 10sec ago) i couldnt find the option that would allow me to set in game res in rocket league higher then naive even with dsr/vsr enabled….

    on the other hand, open GFE and you can click teh game, do a manual setting and crank it to dsr maxed out, without using notepad or the like to edit the files manually…(rocketleague among others do not list higher then native resolutions, requiring manual edit or use of gfe, try it yourself…)

  10. I used it to track my console gaming mostly. I’d like to find a decent alternative that covers multiple consoles the way Raptr did. *sighs*

  11. really, could you post screenshots?
    i cannot see where to tell nvcp to change the resolution set inside the config files of games…..im sure im just missing a tab/feature, please post a screenshot..im not seeing where in nvidia cp i can make rocket league run at above desktop/native res without manually editing the config by hand or using gfxexp…

I’m really gonna miss Raptr, for those who do not seem to know what value it brought it allowed you to track your gaming across multiple platforms (Steam,Origin, Ubiplay etc) as well as consoles AND it gave you a “one stop shop” to tweak multiple games without having to launch them (a godsend when you upgraded your PC, I remember when I went from 16×9 to 1080P what could have taken hours of game launching and setting took less than 5 minutes thanks to raptr) and if all that wasn’t enough it gave you points for playing games that earned you either free stuff in several games (you could get the NX01 for example in Star Trek Online) or you could use them for the Raptr Raffles which earned me Sleeping Dogs Definitive the day before my Bday one year…nice.

    So while I’ll keep using Plays.TV (which was spun off from Raptr last year and which is frankly a LOT better than Crimson ReLive for recording gameplay) I’ll miss Raptr for all the great features. Sadly there is NO program I can find that does all or even half of what Raptr did so all my game tracking and easy tweaking days are over, damned shame.
