Gigabyte’s GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G is “world’s smallest 1080”

Last December, “The world's smallest GeForce GTX 1080” debuted with the ZOTAC GTX 1080 Mini. Gigabyte has since joined suit, unveiling the second mITX version of the card in the form of its GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G, ousting the title of “smallest” from under ZOTAC’s nose.

The card comes in at just 169mm long, vastly shorter than the reference 1080’s 267mm length and over 40mm shorter than ZOTAC’s 211mm 1080 mini. This is all due to the implementation of a single rather than dual fan design. These dimensions are identical to that of Gigabyte’s previous diminutive efforts, matching the GTX 1070 Mini ITX and 1060 Mini ITX cards.

Gigabyte’s 1080 Mini ITX 8G operates under reference clocks, despite the smaller size, with OV Mode increasing the core clocks by approximately 2%. This is limited by the singular semi-passive 90mm fan, that although regulates itself dependent on heat and load, can’t cope with overclocking in the same way as its larger counterparts. Further backed by a triple heat pipe cooling solution and 5+2 power phases, the card is powered by an 8pin power connector located on the top of the GPU.

Details on pricing and availability will hopefully come in the near future, however with the price increase surrounding the recent GDDR5 shortage, pricing might be higher than expected.

KitGuru Says: This is definitely a powerful little option for those passionate about small form factor builds. I’d actually be tempted to craft a HTPC with gaming capabilities using this card. What do you think of Mini ITX cards? Does the Gigabyte 1080 Mini ITX 8G interest you?
