AMD will be launching the RX Vega in just a couple of days time but we have already been given a decent idea of performance ahead of time. Now today, we have our first look at two out of the three versions of Vega in the flesh, one featuring a standard reference cooler, one with liquid cooling and another with a limited edition cooler.
First up is the Radeon RX Vega 64 (reference) on the left, which is set to be the cheapest of the bunch. It features the same stock cooler design as the reference RX 500 series graphics cards but with two 8-pin power connectors, three DisplayPort connections and one HDMI.
Then there is the Radeon RX Vega 64 (Limited Edition) on the right, which is the same version of Vega previously spotted in a leaked Chinese teaser. It has a brushed aluminium shroud, a blower fan, the red Vega logo on the front and finally, a little ‘R’ light in the corner, similarly to the Vega Frontier Edition. Both images were leaked via Videocardz, in case you couldn’t tell by the watermark.
There will be an RX Vega 64 Liquid Edition, which will likely feature the same style shroud as the Vega Limited Edition. However, like the Fury X, it will come with a preinstalled water-block. This will be the most expensive version of the RX Vega but we have yet to see if this cooler will provide additional headroom for overclocking. Back when the Fury X launched, overclocking was essentially impossible beyond 50 to 75MHz, so it will be interesting to see if AMD has addressed that this time around.

I didn’t think the RX-500 series had blower-style reference coolers. RX-400 series did.

All cards from AMD and nvidia have blower style coolers. Its the off shoot brands like MSI, ASUS, EVGA, SAPPHIRE, etc that then add a better cooler and make “super clocked” editions.

That is usually the case, but the RX-500 series does not have a blower-style reference cooler. At least, the 570 and 580 don’t from what I recall.
RX 500 series reference video cards have 2 fan coolers I believe
rx 500 series had no reference design, just slap a new gpu die on a 400 series pcb and done.
The Fury X has an entire closed-loop cooling system, not only a waterblock.
Still, I really hoped that the metal shroud was on the normal Vega, not only on a more expensive version?
That’s right, but I’ve never seen a reference 570 or 580…

Why would I be salty? I’m not in the market for a card. The entire idea behind mining is stupid. It’s just a waste of electricity, will burn out cards faster to go to the landfill, and hurts a growing market of gamers. Anyways, as one guy said, you can make more money trading crypto than mining it.
