DICE showcased what to expect in Battlefield 1’s upcoming expansion, In the Name of the Tsar back at E3. Owners of the Premium Pass will be able to try out the “most extensive Battlefield expansion yet” on September 5th, while everyone else will get their hands on it come the 19th.
In the Name of the Tsar does seem to introduce a lot, giving players new challenges, 6 new maps, 11 new weapons, at least 3 new vehicles, the Hussar cavalry, the Women's Battalion of Death and the much anticipated Russian army.
On top of all of that content comes the new Supply Drop mode, in which teams will fight over supply crates that contain all sorts of rewards, such as ammo, health, vehicles and pickups for Elite classes. As always, the team that captures the most points, wins. This mode seems to have been adapted from DICE’s other venture, Star Wars Battlefront with its Drop Zone mode.
Some of the new maps introduce a new dynamic by reducing vehicle count, prompting stealthier gameplay than before. Tsaritsyn is an example of this, taking advantage of the new Hussar cavalry class that was originally showcased wielding a spear.
“Tsaritsyn takes place during a conflict between the Red Army and White Guard during 1918—1920 called the Battle of Tsaritsyn,” reads the game’s website. “The end goal of the conflict was to reclaim lost territory that is currently in control of White Guard.”
KitGuru: I know many were expecting the Russian army at launch, but I can’t think of a better way now than to introduce them alongside an overflow of content. Are you looking forward to the new expansion?
