In a move meant to combat AMD's Ryzen Threadripper launch, earlier this year Intel announced a new line of Core i9 processors, ranging from a 10C/20T chip all the way up to an 18C/36T behemoth. We have already seen what the 10-core 7900X can do but we have seen very little of the flagship Core i9 7980XE. That changed this week though, with the first benchmarks of the $2000 chip appearing online.
The Core i9-7980XE is the most expensive CPU in Intel's X299 lineup. It's not available to buy just yet but it seems some have managed to get their hands on early samples. An enthusiast known as Coolenjoy (via Videocardz) has posted benchmarks for the 7980XE this week, showing a Cinebench score that is 37 percent higher than AMD's Threadripper 1950X.
In the Cinebench R15 run, AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 1950X scored 3,069 points while Intel's new flagship scored 4,204 points. The story continues with Fire Strike, with Threadripper scoring 27,579 points meanwhile Intel's Core i9 managed to bump that up to 32,201.
The system used for these benchmarks consisted of an ASUS ROG Zenith X299 motherboard, 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a GTX 1080Ti Founders Edition.
KitGuru Says: While Intel's Core i9-7980XE beats Threadripper, it also costs twice the price. With that in mind, it seems unlikely that this release will hurt Threadripper in the long run.
Intel and nVidia think they have their boot on AMD’s throat, by pulling just one more product out of their a$$ to justify ridiculous price tags. People are smartening up, however, and deciding not to pay twice as much for only incrementally more speed. The i9-7890XE is $2,000 and Threadripper 1950X is $1,000. AMD clearly provides better price/performance.
Sure… they do with Vega… price/performance my a$$… cut the $hit AMD fanboy. This CPU`s are not even made for consumers, they are for prosumer market where they do not give a $hit about money. If the Intel CPU`s makes the job done faster, they will buy Intel now AMD slower CPUs.
this statement couldn’t be more stupid. only an idiotic business wouldn’t know what they are buying. the only reason to get the Intel is if they NEEDED features that ONLY Intel provided over the AMD solution, otherwise, WHY pay TWICE the price for ONLY a 37% improvement in performance when it comes to STRICTLY multitasking performance only?
Only stupid people i know are the AMD faggets. https://i.imgur.com/PijcGEU.gif
Is this image provided by AMD ?? ……… it’s too small to see lol
“We don’t need AMD at all” Hoo boy… Have you ever heard of competition and its effects on the market? I mean, look at what happened to the market due to the lack of competition in the first place. Since Intel had practically no competition, they got complacent and dropped the performance gains on their CPUs for years to the point where it actually hadn’t been worthwhile to upgrade your CPU possibly until now.
As for Nvidia, since they haven’t had real competition for a long time, they started putting their mid-range GPUs into what were supposed to be their high end cards, the X80s, then doubled the price on those GPUs that used to be X80 cards, starting with the 680, just because and called them “Titan”; heck, nowadays you can’t even get a high end Nvidia GPU on any consumer level card, and the cheapest you can get one now is on a $5000 Quadro P6000. That’s all thanks to the lack of competition. If anything, we need AMD to make a huge comeback, like NOW.
Ask yourself how much AMD ask for Vega on prosumer market… lol :)) Idiot
you rely on insults and can’t even spell one right. no one is going to take you seriously.
who cares i`m not even speak english… And all this sites are a bad joke and they are full with dumb AMD, Nvidia, Intel fanboys and trolls anyway. Wake up to reality the internet is a cancer now is this world. No control no nothing, totally damage control. :)))
The internet is formed by low people like you. Finally able to talk trash but in real life don’t dare to open your mouth to anybody.
You are in control just don,t act like a no life scum.
Dude i do not care, for me this is fun… i`m just trolling for fun. Real life is real life, this is virtual where people like to make fun of things. I was once like you… believing that… good for you if you still believing in something that does not exist anymore on the Internet 🙂
Well it does exists, there’s a simple mute & report solution for ppl like u, so the annoyance you spread reaches smaller numbers.
ok then report me and STFU then… like i said who cares… :)))
Is it twice the performance? No? Then how do they justify that price? Jeeze. Intel, for people who have more money than time. AMD for everything else.

Costs don’t increase linearly with performance.

Yea I seen these benchmark scores a couple days ago. Here is the thing the tests all show a standard clocked Threadripper 1950x going up against a overclocked 4.2GHz on all cores Intel Core i9-7980XE CPU. This is not very realistic since to cool that Intel CPU running 18 cores will be a real nightmare for most people to be able to keep the temps under control.
What I want to see is stock vs stock benchmarks with the CPU’s both running out of the box speeds and then also have benches with both CPU’s overclocked as well this then is an apples to apples compare. The only reason I know that the Intel was not running at spec speed is because there are more pictures that the guy released than what is posted here. I am sure Intel most likely wants reviewers to test the CPU this way as it makes it look way better than it is.
I would expect a 18/36 CPU to be able to do a bit better than a 16/32 CPU just because it has a couple extra cores and a slightly higher turbo state. But these scores are out to lunch and are pretty much void because of the way the tests were done. But hey Intel loves it because now it has been posted all over the internet and these benches are the only ones people will remember. I am no AMD fanboy I just think these benches are totally useless the way they were done.

Depends… Intel I9 7900X scores around the same as the threadripper 1950x but with a way higher single thread performance and less power consumption, while the price dropes so much that now the I9 7900x wins everything against the threadripper 1950X.
