The Metro series has never been a blockbuster franchise, with the stealth-horror FPS games seeing a respectable amount of success relative to their popularity. That said, the latest entry in the series – Metro Exodus – has broken free of this niche in a massive way, having now officially sold over 10 million copies.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Metro page celebrated Exodus’ 5th anniversary, saying “Metro Exodus turns 5 years old today, and has now sold over 10 Million copies. Metro will return in VR with Metro Awakening from @vertigogames in 2024 – and the next mainline Metro from @4AGames…When it’s ready. Thank you for coming on the journey so far with us.”
Released back in 2019, Metro Exodus benefited greatly from an enhanced port released later in 2021, bringing with it full ray-tracing on both PC and current-gen systems.
As mentioned by the team, a VR title was recently announced – and while it won’t be developed by 4AGames – it will be interesting to see just how well it performs in the wake of Metro Exodus’ overwhelming success.
