Nvidia partners reckon RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs are coming this year

Due to RTX 40 Super launching in early 2024, we were unsure if we would see new-gen gaming GPUs from Nvidia this year, and earlier rumours did point to an early 2025 launch, rather than the usual Q3/Q4 launch window. However, new reports citing board partner sources claim that Nvidia's first RTX 50 series GPUs will arrive later this year after all.

With the RTX 40 series apparently complete, it's time to look at what's coming next: the RTX 50 series. According to Money UDN (via VideoCardz), board partners expect to ship high-end RTX 50 series cards in the fourth quarter, with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 cards being the first to come out. Leaker kopite7kimi says the same, further strengthening the belief that we'll get the first RTX 50 series cards this year.

Rumours suggest that the GB202 GPU, which is expected to power the RTX 5090, will have up to 192 Streaming Multiprocessors, which would mean 24,576 CUDA cores. Similarly, the GB203 could have around half that amount (96 Streaming Multiprocessors), meaning it would have 12,888 CUDA cores. However, to maintain high yields, it is unlikely that the RTX 5090 or the 5080 will use fully unlocked GPUs. The RTX 5090 is expected to use GDDR7 memory.

While these names are likely to be accurate, it's worth noting that Nvidia is still finalising the specifications. The company is known for making last-minute modifications or cancelling products before they even hit the market.

KitGuru says: Are you planning to get one of the new Nvidia RTX 50 series graphics cards? Do you intend to acquire one of the high-end ones, like the RTX 5080 or 5090, or something a bit more conservative, like an RTX 5070 or 5060 series card?
