Sledgehammer addresses Call of Duty: WWII hackers in beta

When the beta for Call of Duty: WWII landed last week, many were surprised at the sheer amount of hackers that plagued the 5-day period. In a post-beta update, developer Sledgehammer addressed the issue, promising to tackle the issue head on.

Given that Call of Duty often houses the largest amount of cheaters in online competitive gaming, it’s shocking to find out that no anti-cheat measure was in place during the beta. Of course, Sledgehammer does plan to implement the measures before the game’s November 3rd release, but you’d think that testing those measures would be a priority given that it is one of the main causes of gamers’ steadily lowering satisfaction for the series.

“Sadly, there are always those who aim to spoil the fun, even in a beta,” Sledgehammer states in an update. “We have yet to deploy the suite of anti-cheat/hacking technology we will use when the full PC game is live. We take a level playing field extremely serious and will monitor and react to this as a top priority on an ongoing basis.”

On top of cheating, the developers have released a list of additional changes that it plans to make before the full version of the game sees its way into players’ hands across the world. Many of them seem to be UI related, which was one of the main complaints during the beta period. You can find a list of them below:

  • Scroll bars on options that scroll.
  • Allow numerical entry to mouse and controller sensitivity options (in addition to slider).
  • Streamline the exit of the game.
  • Clearly indicate being in Party status in UI.
  • Making the resolution options more clear and consistent.
  • Video option video memory indicator.
  • Warnings about video memory over-commitment.
  • Option to bind lean left/right keys in multiplayer.
  • And a number of smaller issues that we’re tracking, which we’ll update in future patch notes.

KitGuru Says: Sledgehammer is keeping a close eye on its Reddit and Steam threads, so if you experience any issues, those seem like the best places to report to aside from any in-game bug reporting system. Did you take part in the CoD: WWII beta? Did you notice any hackers?

  1. The aim botters really did spoil the beta a bit, but all in all i really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the PC release. and i am super happy that the list of things they are improving are all the items i submitted reports about during the beta, glad they are listening to us players

Are you serious, listening to the players? Sledgehammer don’t care about the players and it is obvious. They only care about revenue. Why do we still have hackers? If they cared about us they should go after the companies how makes cheats. Never buy anything with Sledgehammer name on it.

  3. give me a break…If you people buy that trash then you are fools…they dont care about the hackers..only $$…Modern warfare remastered adn Infinite warfare didnt even have an anticheat and its 90% hackers who play those on PC.. If they cared about fixing the hacker problem…they would add Dedicated servers into the game…like it was in the good ol days….before they just started porting their shitty console versions to PC format… Call of Duty on PC is dead and will remain dead until they give us our dedicated servers back. I purchased a XIM4 so i could use mouse and keyboard on the PS4 and i couldnt be happier…i havent had this much fun in call of duty since Black Ops 1…the game is phenominal and it is a damn shame that it is WORTHLESS on the PC…no paranoia whenever i come across a good player…nobody crying hack mid game…and best of all…no hackers…jjust good ol COD fun…like it used to be and how its meant to be…They dont give a damn about pc players anymore…if you paid 600 bucks for a new video card to play this game on pc..you are a moron and a sucker…the hacking problem will in crease and nothing will be done about it..they got your money and arent even worried about the PC version any longer.
