RX Vega 64 launch prices have quickly risen across the board

Yesterday, we finally got to see the launch of AMD’s latest flagship graphics card, the RX Vega 64. This particular card is a competitive match up against the GTX 1080 and AMD’s MSRP reflected that, with a suggested $499 price for the black reference cooler model. Unfortunately over the last 24 hours, that suggested price has apparently been thrown out the window, with the majority of air-cooled reference cards sitting at around the £599 mark instead, with just a few sitting at £550.

We checked out several UK retailers for RX Vega 64 prices, with Scan, CCL Online, Overclockers UK and Aria all listing prices much higher than we were expecting. Here are the cheapest prices we could find at each retailer today, the day after launch:

  • Scan– 8GB Sapphire RX Vega 64: £596.99.
  • Overclockers UK– 8GB Sapphire RX Vega 64: £548.99.
  • Aria UK– 8GB Sapphire RX Vega 64: £548.99.
  • CCL Online– 8GB Gigabyte RX Vega 64: £535.30.

Each of those cards were the black reference cooler version of the RX Vega 64 and not the more expensive ‘limited edition’ version with the silver cooler. While the prices listed above are the cheapest we could find, for the most part, RX Vega 64 cards are being listed for £599, with a few cards on Scan going even higher to £611. All pricing is subject to change in the future but at the time of writing, these are the prices we managed to uncover.

We have heard from AMD that its set MSRP has not changed following launch. Unfortunately, AMD has no control over individual retail pricing, so it looks like Vega is going to be stuck at these higher prices for some time as long as they keep selling.

UPDATE: We have since been given reason to believe that AMD did have a hand in the Vega64 price change. You can read our updated report HERE

With reference cards going as high as £599, it does make you wonder how expensive third-party custom cooled versions are going to be. You can find our RX Vega 64 (Air) review, HERE.

KitGuru Says: It’s safe to say that RX Vega 64 pricing is significantly higher than we were expecting, particularly for reference model cards. Have any of you managed to order an RX Vega GPU yet? What do you think of the current retail pricing?

  1. Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to Scan they go….

  2. None of these cards even at those prices are in stock.
I checked twice an hour every hour all the above sites and non were in stock. For 8 hours.
Also AMD can refuse to supply stock if customers are getting ripped off. They didn’t, perhaps
as they have no stock. I saw a rumor that overclockers.co.uk only got 1000, which for such a large company was very few. Yet if they did I didn’t see them listed on their site.

Overclockers.co.uk love to increase prices around payday at the end of the month, so not surprised they would screw people over.

They seem to be blaming AMD for the 100 extra, they have decided to charge. A amd price rise

  3. Why anyone would still want a Vega 64 air cooled over a 1080, or a Vega liquid over a 1080ti is beyond me.

  5. Thanks Linda, I’ll be sure to click the link. BTW you look beautiful

  6. shocking all round. AMD need to look at this and sort it out 🙁

  7. nvidia gtx 1080 is faster and uses 80 watts less power and these amd cards are running hot whats wrong with people

  8. Extremely high hash rates. Out of the box full linux support. Nothing wrong with people, just use cases outside the ‘normal’ circuit.

  9. Freesync monitors are significantly cheaper than comparable G-Sync ones.

  10. Yeh i checked overclockers all day it went straight to pre order. Lucky got one before the price hike then they email me saying can we remove it deliver the rest of your system. Ugh.. No!

  11. Are there any other reasons because I’m not convinced on it’s own that is enough.

  12. Some people say that driver updates will unlock vega’s power. I think it’s true due to a lot of Vega features and technologies are still not used. However I don’t think that it will be as big and I think I’m gonna buy a 1080 as I’ve found a killer deal on a GSync monitor.
Maybe AMD charging 100 more after launch means that they think that performance will skyrocket, or believe that saying that means more buyers; anyways it doesn’t seem fair to me that after all these years drivers use so little of the card.
