If you've been on the edge about upgrading your rig so far this year, then this might finally be the time to take the leap as this week, the excellent Ryzen 7 1700X is going on sale in the UK.
AMD's popular 8-core chip has had its price cut down to £289.99 at Overclockers UK and Scan starting from today. Usually, the Ryzen 7 1700X sells for closer to the £330 mark, so this is a decent saving. The price cut doesn't last forever though, the price will go back up from the 25th of September onwards, so you have two weeks in total to take advantage.
Back when we reviewed the Ryzen 7 1700X we gave it our ‘MUST HAVE' award, praising it for its superb price to performance ratio compared to Intel's Broadwell-E offerings at the time. We also managed to overclock our chip to Ryzen 7 1800X levels, so there is additional performance you can squeeze out of it.
If you fancy taking advantage, you can find the Ryzen 7 1700X at Overclockers UK HERE. Or at Scan, HERE.
KitGuru Says: Given how much praise Ryzen has been receiving, it has got me contemplating whether to make the switch as well. Are any of you planning on building a new rig soon? Will you be picking up a Ryzen 7 1700X?
Hmm.. I have a 1700 running my Plex server right now because I said I’d OC it but I haven’t bothered.. I know it makes more sense to just OC it than get a new CPU but this is really tempting

A 1700 to run a Plex server???? Overkill much?
Please tell me that’s not all that chip is for, if so you may as well underclock it!
Lol it was running a VM for a little while but I repurposed an old machine to cover that. A horrible term but the 1700 was for “future proofing”. I previously had Plex running on a qnap NAS with a dual core Celeron.. It was fine until I tried to run more than 2 transcoded 1080p streams. Tried to run a 4K stream and it just s**t the bed
Okay future proofing eh. I let you off. :p
Seriously though, if you want 1700X performance just OC what you already got, it’s easy peasy so long as you got a good cooler.
