Developers join forces to donate One Special Day’s worth of profits to charity

Big-name developers have come together for UK based charity SpecialEffect’s event, One Special Day. This event sees each company choosing to donate a day’s worth of one or more of their game’s profits, with the aim of supporting physically disabled gamers all over the world.

SpecialEffect sets out to ensure that severely disabled games across the globe can immerse themselves in the video game world. Sometimes this includes occupational therapists conducting a home visit to assess and help the situation as well as technical specialists working with developers to create custom technology in both a hardware and software.

“We're here to make sure everyone can join in,” said Dr Mick Donegan, founder of SpecialEffect. “For many of them it is the first time in their entire lives that they have been able to truly compete on a level playing field. It is so great to enable a severely disabled person to compete with a relative or friend for the first time.”

EA, SEGA and Rovio, known for Mass Effect, Sonic and Angry Birds respectively, have come together for the cause, each bringing a plethora of donations to the table in the forms of revenue, games and special items up for auction. Regarding the revenue, each developer will select one or more of its titles and choose to donate a day’s worth of its UK or even global revenue to the effort.

Alongside any purchase made to the selected games on the 29th September helping push beyond the £100,000 goal, One Special Day is releasing a 24-hour Humble Store sale in which all proceeds go to the cause and holding a Twitch livestream.

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.
