Patriot introduces illuminated Viper LED Gaming Mouse Pad

Patriot is making waves in the peripheral market, with its Viper series bringing headsets, mice, keyboards and now a newly announced LED mouse mat. Viper LED Gaming Mouse Pad is not quite the RGB mouse mat you’d expect at first glance, but rather a 6 colour pad with zoned-LED illumination.

One of the most interesting features is that the user has the ability to cycle through LED lighting effects via a manual control switch located on the USB cord rather than a constant reliance on software. Of course, this does sacrifice some amount of customisability.

The mouse pad measures 35.32 x 24.27 x 4.6 cm, with each of the four corners angled for a distinct look. It’s made of a high-quality rigid polymer that Patriot boasts is sleek, with its scratch-free surface resisting wear and tear. Most mice are meant to glide with just the right amount of resistance, which seems designed to work in tandem with the Viper V570 mouse and its ceramic foot pads.

Of course, the Viper LED Gaming Mouse Pad is held in place with a high-grip rubber backing that covers the entire underside of the surface, ensuring that the mat doesn’t slip during use. Its mini USB cord is braided for extra protection, as well as being backed by a two-year warranty.

Coming in at $59.99, it is slightly more expensive than Corsair’s Polaris RGB Mouse Pad, Razer’s Firefly Chroma Mouse Pad and Thermaltake’s Draconem RGB Mouse Pad which all feature 16.8M colour illumination.

KitGuru Says: I like the idea giving illuminated mouse mats without going down the RGB route, however it seems with the slightly lesser functionality that it would be relatively cheaper. That being said, most of the aforementioned RGB mouse pads retailed for higher starting price when first released and have decayed in pricing over time. Do you own a lighted mouse pad? Do you plan on picking up one soon?
