Improving its consumer based Threadripper X399 motherboard released back in July, MSI has launched its X399 SLI PLUS, built with content creators in mind. Sporting a full black colour scheme, the new X399 SLI PLUS features heavy plated heatsinks and Military Class V components to withstand some of the more intense processors required by designers.
The all-black design is there to emphasise on MSI's Mystic Light RGB illumination, personalising the I/O port shroud, the chipset heatsink and below the bottom right of the motherboard with independent lighting. The boad also comes with two additional headers to connnecting RGB strips for additional lighting.
Featuring the Threadripper standard TR4 CPU socket , the X399 SLI PLUS supports up to 128GB of memory in four-channel mode, at official speeds of 3600MHz across eight DDR4 DIMM slots. With SLI in its name, multiple GPUs is a core feature, utilising four PCIe 3.0 x16 slots. Only two of these slots feature the motherboard's signature metal protection, however. The M.2 Shield v2 also helps protect connected M.2 SSDs, minimalising throttling and ensuring speeds are consistent.
The I/O panel on the X399 SLI PLUS supports a ton of ports, including a single USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A and Type-C jack, eight USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 slots, a CMOS clear button, BIOS flashback button and the standard audio and LAN connectors.
Other features included in the new motherboard are DDR4 Boost, Turbo M.2 with RAID support, Audio Boost, X-Boost, a Gigabit network solution powered by Intel, Digital Power Design, EZ Debug LED, 13 Phase Premium Power Design and apparently many more.
Availability and pricing information have yet to be announced by MSI, however the new X399 SLI PLUS is expected to hit shelves at te end of October.
KitGuru Says: I do think the lighting on it is rather fetching and woud work with almost any system, aside from those with an all-white design. Have you moved over to AMD's Threadripper processor? Do you plan to in the near future?
