Samsung’s Galaxy S8 might not get Android Oreo until early 2018

When it comes to Google’s yearly Android updates, it is usually hard to predict how soon third-party phone makers will begin rolling it out for their respective flagships. This year, it looks like some phone makers are falling behind a bit, though Samsung has updated the status of its Galaxy S8 Oreo update. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will be arriving until early next year.

This update in particular comes from the Turkish branch of Samsung, which published a blog post saying that the company aims to “present the new operating system at the beginning of the new year”.

Rollouts for new Android updates are typically staggered, as first the smartphone manufacturer needs to work on the OS and then, networks will often get their own input depending on the country.

So far, Samsung hasn’t confirmed a full list of devices set to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update, but we can safely assume that the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 will both be on the list. These devices will be prioritised ahead of older ones, like the Galaxy S7. Either way, if you are running a Samsung smartphone, the official Oreo update may take a while to get to you, unless you opt to root your phone and install a custom ROM.
