Crytek’s free to play shooter ‘Warface’ is getting a Battle Royale mode

It looks like Crytek is looking to give Warface a bit of a resurgence this year with a new Battle Royale mode to compete with the likes of PUBG, Fortnite and H1Z1. Warface initially launched as a free to play shooter in late 2013 on the PC and Xbox 360. The game is still alive and with this new game mode, perhaps it will gain some fresh players.

In a short teaser titled ‘Warface- Prepare for a fight!', Crytek briefly showed off a desert map. PUBG also has its own desert map in the works, so Warface could end up beating it to the punch there.

As with all Battle Royale games, you can expect a large map, lots of players and a shrinking safe zone, pushing players to remain on the move and fight.

Crytek is looking to bring this new mode to Warface in beta form as part of the next major update. From there, the studio will be collecting feedback and making improvements in time for the full release.

KitGuru Says: Warface wasn't particularly well received at launch, but it still seems to have plenty of players. A quick look at Steam Spy reveals that around 194,000 people have played within the last two weeks, so perhaps this new Battle Royale mode will help give it a boost. That said, Crytek has had a history of jumping onto industry trends a little too late, so this could end up falling flat. Did any of you play Warface back when it came out?
