New Disney partnership will block some Fortnite skins from Battle Royale mode

For years now, Epic Games and Disney have had a strong relationship, with the ever-popular Battle Royale ‘Fortnite’ seeing countless crossover skins and in-game collaborations. As the two continue to deepen their relationship further, it seems as though some future Disney skins will be blocked from Fortnite’s more gun-friendly game modes.

Following the announcement back in February that Epic Games and Disney would be engaging in a long-term partnership, the Fortnite maker has revealed a bit of how this plan will pan out, saying in an interview with The Verge:

“Disney wants a persistent place where all things Disney can be there, but they want to be part of an ecosystem we’ve built. We see the power of ecosystems interoperating as being really the magic here. From a player perspective, you want to be able to flow between a Fortnite experience, a Disney experience, or any experience really.”

Interestingly, it seems as though the folks at Disney are setting some pretty significant limitations on this partnership, with Epic Games EVP Saxs Persson stating:

”Not every outfit will be able to do everything. A [Lego] minifig doesn’t hold a gun. Brands should be able to enforce the brand guidelines to the degree that they’re comfortable with that brand being associated with particular ratings.”

Of course, at this point Fortnite is far more than just a Battle Royale, with the likes of the aforementioned LEGO crafting mode; a racing title and the Guitar Hero-esque Fortnite Festival – alongside countless user-created content.

Even so, it will be interesting to see exactly how this is implemented, and whether the more limited skins will be cheaper than the rest.
