Call of Duty: WWII is launching next week and after rounding up feedback from the beta, Sledgehammer Studios has made a few changes. Not only are the finalised PC system requirements now in place for the game, but the studio has chosen to make some changes to how it handles controller aim assist, as well as FOV for different aspect ratios, putting limitations on both.
For starters, in order to keep everyone on an even playing field in multiplayer, there will be a different ‘maximum FOV’ option depending on your monitor’s aspect ratio. Those playing at 4:3 or 16:10 will be able to go up to 100 degree FOV, while 16:9 players will have a maximum of 95. Those running at 21:9 will have their maximum FOV limited to 80, meanwhile those running at higher than that will be capped at 70.
Aim assist for controller users was disabled during the WWII beta and it will remain disabled for the final game. This is in contrast to Destiny 2, which chose to leave controller aim assist in, which has caused some concerns for competitive players. Aside from that, Sledgehammer is also promising better anti-cheat for the final game, stating that the ‘full suite’ of tools were not online for the beta. This was likely a security measure, ensuring that cheat makers couldn’t analyse all of the game’s anti-cheat systems ahead of release.
Now let’s turn to system requirements. Here is the minimum spec:
- OS: Windows 7 64-Bit or later
- CPU: CPU: Intel Core i3 3225 3.3 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1400
- RAM: 8GB RAM
- HDD: 90GB HD space
- Video: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 @ 2 GB / GTX 1050 or ATI Radeon HD 7850 @ 2GB / AMD RX 550
And here is the recommended spec:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 or AMD Ryzen R5 1600X
- RAM: 12GB RAM
- HDD: 90GB HD space
- Video: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 / GTX 1060 @ 6GB or AMD Radeon R9 390 / AMD RX 580
Sledgehammer’s main concern this time around appears to be keeping everyone on a level playing field. The studio will begin actively banning cheaters from day one. All we can do now is hope that the anti-cheat systems hold up well enough. Call of Duty: WWII launches on the 3rd of November.
KitGuru Says: I understand why some competitive games choose to limit FOV but as a 21:9 user myself, I can’t say that I like the change all that much. Particularly since I tend to prefer playing with a 95 degree FOV. Still, I’m sure the game will be enjoyable either way. Are any of you planning on getting Call of Duty: WWII? Will you be playing on PC or another platform?
I5 2400 or R5 1600? The Ryzen chips like 70% faster…
If this game won’t even run at all on an R3 I’ll eat my hat. And also it’d imply it’s horrendously Intel-optimised.
I don’t see why my FX8350 couldn’t run it just fine… not that I’m all that interested.
On that I’d agree with you and I’d add that given that to be the case, then Destiny 2 would be FAR better optimized than this game would be if that is confirmed to be true… Not saying it is or that it isn’t.
That said, I think that I will be picking the game up just not at launch.
