be quiet! shares details on its upcoming Dark Base 700 case

be quiet! has finally introduced a mid-tower into its Dark Base range, utilising its sleek, silent design while making a fair few noticeable improvements. Through integrating RGB lighting, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 as well as room and accessibility for a variety of cooling designs, this case could be worth considering for new builds.

Of course, the Dark Base 700 is much smaller than its 900 cousin, measuring in at 21.4 x 20.4 x 9.48 inches, according to Techspot. This allows the case to house ATX, Mini-ITX and some E-ATX motherboards, up to 12.08 x 10.82 inches in size. Despite not carrying the ‘Pro’ moniker, the Dark Base 700 sports a 4mm thick tinted tempered glass panel.

Instead of residing within the panel door, the fan controller has now moved to the IO panel, sporting 3 manual settings and one auto. This is more akin to its Silent Base range, as the Dark Base 900 houses a slider for greater control of fans.

Also on the left of the power button is a single USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port as well as microphone and headphone jacks. To the right is a status indicator LED, an LED switch to control its RGB lighting and two USB 3.0 ports. The lighting itself is located as an accent to the left and right of the front panel door, allowing for six different colours, replacing the colour variants featured on all of the previous models of Dark Base, Silent Base and Pure Base.

be quiet! includes two of its 140mm SilentWings 3 PWM 1600 RPM fans, one located as an intake at the front with the second silently flowing the air out of the rear. It’s fair to say that if more fans are required, the Dark Base 700 isn’t short of options.

Not taking into account the two included fans, the Dark Base 700 can fit two 140mm fans at the front, up to three 140mm fans on the top, a single 140mm fan on the bottom and another used for the power supply shroud itself.

If watercooling is more your thing, there is plenty of room for radiators. The Dark Base 700 makes it particularly easy to fit anything from a 120mm to a 140mm, 240mm or 360mm radiator on the top with a removable bracket, quelling the awkwardness of installation at any point during the building phase. The front can also fit any of the aforementioned sizes as well as a 280mm, while the rear allows for a 120mm or 140mm radiator.

Despite losing a lot of the space that its full tower cousin has, CPU air coolers can still range up to 7.08-inches tall and graphics cards up to 11.26-inches will fit if you don’t want to remove the hard drive cage. Removing this will allow for 16.93-inches, however. With the cage, owners can make use of three 2.5-inch and seven 3.5-inch bays, with the latter able to house two 2.5-inch drives at once if needed.

The Dark Base 700 is set to release on November 14th with a 3-year warranty. Pricing is yet to be confirmed and is particularly difficult to guess given the amount of features it seems to have improved on its, rather brilliant, predecessor.
