First came the screen issues, then the sound. Now Pixel 2 XL owners are citing yet another problem with the device, this time concerning responsiveness near the edges of the smartphone.
Not all issues have concerned the screen, but it's safe to say that it has been the main culprit for Pixel 2 XL disasters. This new issue came to light in the Pixel Community Forum via Android Police, with a user reporting that the edges of the screen don't always react to tactile action.
That is to say, the further from the centre you get, the more you run the risk of the Pixel not registering your movement. YouTube user Brandon James made a video to showcase the dead spots.
Poor community manager, Orrin, yet again responded to the issue in Google's forums:
Hey All,
Thanks for all the reports here, and to those that sent up additional info. The team has been investigating, and this will be addressed in a future OTA update.
Cheers!
There is, in fact, a reason behind this functionality, which is to stop users from committing accidental actions via their palms.
Unfortunately, this doesn't help shine a great light on Google after numerous problems about the device came to light, such as badly balanced colours on the screen, screen burn-in, screen coat peeling off, units without Android installed making their way into customer's hands and even units that failed quality assurance being distributed. It's worth noting that this could be something that Google plans to fix via a software update in the future.
KitGuru Says: It is obvious at this point that the Pixel 2 XL was not ready for the public, and that there are still more issues to come. This could perhaps be the most disastrous smartphone launch ever. For now, if you have any problems, Orrin will likely answer over in the Google forums.
