Apple reportedly planning an iPhone SE 2 for Q1 2018

Back in March 2016, Apple released the iPhone SE, a new 4-inch iPhone to take over from the iPhone 5S while providing a power boost. This was intended for those that didn't necessarily want to make the jump to the larger 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch sizes that came with the iPhone 6. Now, it looks like we can expect an iPhone SE 2 in the not too distant future.

According to a Chinese supply-chain report, Apple will be releasing an iPhone SE 2 in the first quarter of 2018, around two years after the release of the original. This will effectively be Apple's ‘budget' iPhone, which the company will primarily push in markets like India and China.

We don't know much about Apple's plans for the iPhone SE 2. The original uses the Apple A9 chip, so we will likely see the iPhone SE 2 match the iPhone 7 when it comes to the processor. Aside from that, we may see an upgraded camera and perhaps a storage boost. Currently, the iPhone SE sells in 16GB and 64GB capacities, so a jump to 32GB for the base model would be welcomed.

For now, we'll just have to wait and see what Apple does. We will likely hear more as we get closer Q1.

KitGuru Says: The iPhone SE has remained surprisingly popular, so there is a market for an upgraded version. That said, for me, I don't think I could go back to a non plus-sized phone after using the iPhone 8 Plus for the last six weeks. Particularly because of the battery life.

  1. Why wouldn’t the processor match the iPhone 8?

it have lower hardware so it can be cheaper, this is the point. The original SE is around 300e atm, it crossed my mind to check if I can get it but this no sd card policy of apple is a deal breaker

  3. The iPhone SE was released 6 months after the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. All three had identical CPUs. It makes sense then that if an SE v2 comes out ~6 months after the iPhone8, they too would have the exact same CPUs.

what? really? I though the se was released alongside the 7 because it made sense to have it for this price and hardware next to it. I need to stop thing that apple products make sense anymore.
