Nvidia promotes its PUBG giveaway with five new screenshots of the upcoming desert map

PUBG’s upcoming desert map has received a lot of attention as of late, with creator Brendan Greene sharing four new images of what to expect and dataminers uncovering the Mad Max-esque names of specific areas. Nvidia is now following up with another five screenshots, previously unseen before today.

Yet again, the images showcase incredibly flat terrain that contrasts against the hilly terrain of PUBG’s main map, Erangel, while still providing enough vantage points and landscape to shake things up.

“Oils rigs, canyon walls, towers and cranes should make for some interesting snipping, while the more dense cityscapes should intensify scavenging,” says Nvidia. “The desolate landscape is sure to make for some white-knuckle final circle encounters, as there is not a lot of landscape cover when the circle tightens and forces you into open areas.”

Accompanying the images, Nvidia is giving its GeForce Experience users the chance to win 1 of 5,000 copies of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC. To enter, users must simply boot the application up before November 21st, to which Nvidia will select the winners at random.

KitGuru Says: With the new vaulting and climbing mechanics now live on the test servers, it does beg the question as to how effective they will be on the new map. The only other real concern is how much greater of a factor draw distance will be on a range of hardware, but that’s nothing new for PC players and should be numbed as the title becomes more optimised. What are your thoughts on the new desert map?

While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
