CD Projekt Red reveals that Cyberpunk 2077’s online elements will ensure its longevity

For years, CD Projekt Red has kept its lips sealed on its upcoming title, Cyberpunk 2077. While there’s not been too much more detail to go off of, the developer has confirmed rumours of online elements, stating that they will be present to ensure long-term success for the title.

The information came to light on Polish site Strefa Inwestorow (translated by TechRaptor), in which CD Projekt Red’s CEO Adam Kiciński discusses how the firm intends to improve upon its wildly successful finale in Geralt’s trilogy, The Witcher 3.

We already know that Cyberpunk 2077 is pegged to be far, far bigger than that of the already massive world of The Witcher 3, and could feature seamless multiplayer. Of course, CD Projekt Red is still keeping to its roots, reassuring fans that “It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs” first and foremost.

“We want to experiment in new fields that were not yet explored in the Witcher,” says Kiciński according to YouTube's English subtitles. “I can’t say much about Cyberpunk, although our ambitions are set really high because that is our style of work. We want to go even higher, and especially seeing how we’re having a business chat, we’re interested in Cyberpunk being commercially even more significant.”

Regarding the possibility of fully fledged multiplayer, something which has been rumoured in the past, Kiciński replies that “Online is necessary, or very recommended if you wish to achieve a long-term success. At some point, we have mentioned that there will be a certain online element related to Cyberpunk.”

This doesn’t give us much direction to go on, but whether or not we get multiplayer in the traditional sense, we can all agree that there’s no way CD Projekt Red will allow for progression-bound loot boxes, right?

KitGuru Says: Honestly, almost everyone I know that has enjoyed The Witcher 3 has pondered at what the world would be like with a little added multiplayer, despite the title shining perfectly fine as a single-player experience. Are you excited for Cyberpunk 2077?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
