Sea of Thieves comes to PS5 this April

Sea of Thieves has proven to be one of Xbox’s most successful console exclusives. Launching all the way back in 2018, the game has gone from strength to strength, selling millions of copies on Steam alone and promising a decade’s worth of support from the team at Rare. Following reports that the game would be going multiplatform, Microsoft has officially announced Sea of Thieves for PS5.

Sharing ‘a message from our crew’ the team at Rare officially announced that Sea of Thieves is coming to PlayStation 5 on the 30th of April, saying:

“Something we've always been passionate about  is that idea that we should remove barriers that prevent players from playing together. Sea of Thieves is all about players creating stories together in a shared pirate world. The fact that players on PlayStation can step into that world and you can cross-play with all of those other platforms just means that it's such an exciting time for Sea of Thieves.”

They continue, “This is the first time in Rare's nearly 40-year history that we've shipped a game on a PlayStation platform, and that is cause for celebration for both Rare as a studio, and Sea of Thieves You know it's a really momentous occasion for us, and we know that we're starting from kind of scratch when it comes to our relationship and our reputation with a PlayStation audience.”

As far as Xbox exclusives go, Sea of Thieves is an excellent choice to bring to more platforms. The game has already seen a great amount of success on PC and Xbox – and especially in being a live service title – its outward expansion can only be a good thing.
