Microsoft plans supply drop event ahead of PUBG’s Xbox One release

It seems that Microsoft is generating excitement for its exclusive deal to launch PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on its Xbox One next week. The publisher has plans to mimic PUBG’s iconic supply drops by placing three real-life crates across the cities of Australia.

One crate will each be placed in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, containing 25 items that could net the quickest of players Xbox One X consoles and Elite controllers. Smaller prizes include free copies of PUBG for the platform as well as PUBG branded loot.

The locations of these crates won’t be revealed until Saturday, along with the password that accompanies them. Those interested in engaging in the fun antics Microsoft and PUBG Corp have planned will have to keep an eye on the Xbox ANZ Facebook page. The crate itself will be staffed to regulate the item distribution, so don’t forget to hang onto your password to be entitled to something.

PUBG’s release on Xbox One will be an early access version of the game via the Game Preview program on December 12th, costing $30 or roughly £25. Battlegrounds is set to meet its full release for the PC version shortly after, accompanied by its new desert map, Miramar. Stay tuned for gameplay reveal of the new map during The Game Awards later today.

Unfortunately, Xbox One players will have to wait for Miramar to make its way to the platform, but PUBG is still a standout early access game that is headed to its final release faster than most beta titles out there, so it shouldn’t be long.

KitGuru Says: It’s a shame that events like these are confined to Australia. Hopefully other countries see some PUBG-inspired events too somewhere down the line.
