This week, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan began discussing Blizzard's 2018 plans for the game and it looks like the studio will be getting the ball rolling very soon. For starters, Overwatch's next map, known as ‘Blizzard World', will be rolling out to all players very soon after spending a couple of months on the test servers. Secondly, Blizzard is already well on its way to introducing the next hero character.
During the latest Overwatch developer diary, Kaplan said that the Blizzard World map will be released ‘very soon' and that it is one of the best maps so far. A specific date wasn't mentioned but the Chinese New Year event is coming up in mid-February, so it may land then.
As for progress on the next hero character, Kaplan says that the team is “well along the patch on hero 27”, adding that it is currently being tested internally with future hero characters also being planned out. A release date hasn't been shared yet, but I would like to think that it will arrive in time for the game's two year anniversary.
Finally, the developer update also brought us some news on future loot box content. So very soon, and potentially this month, the base ‘non-event' loot boxes will be getting more content, including skins, sprays, victory poses etc.
KitGuru Says: I'm very excited to check out the Blizzard World map when it lands. Are many of you still playing Overwatch regularly?
