AMD’s first Ryzen desktop processors with Vega graphics are here

During CES, AMD showed off its CPU roadmap for 2018, with the Ryzen 2000 series of desktop processors set to debut. Today, the rollout officially kicked things off, with the launch of the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G processors with integrated RX Vega graphics.

These are AMD's first Zen-based APUs, developed under the codename ‘Raven Ridge'. The Ryzen 5 version combines four Zen CPU cores with Radeon Vega 11 graphics and an SEP of $169, meanwhile the Ryzen 3 version comes with Radeon Vega 8 graphics and an SEP of $99. Motherboard makers have already begun rolling out BIOS updates to support both APUs, in particular, ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte and MSI are already rolling out updates.

We were fortunate enough to get some review samples in for both the Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 3 2200G. Our review compares using the built in Vega graphics with a low-end discrete GPU like the RX 550 or RX 560. Ultimately, we praised the Ryzen 5 2400G for edging out the Ryzen 5 1500X in CPU tests. The Ryzen 3 2200G on the other hand received praise for its low price point, coming in cheaper than the Ryzen 3 1300 X.

KitGuru Says: The first Ryzen APUs are officially here. Unfortunately with RAM prices currently being so high, it has become somewhat harder to build a decent 1080p gaming machine on a tight budget.
