Larian won’t be working on Baldur’s Gate 3 expansions or sequel

Larian Studios has been on a hot streak for over a decade, pushing the popularity of modern cRPGs with the Divinity Original Sin games. The studio shattered expectations again with Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023, which went on to become one of the best selling games of the year. Larian isn't sticking around with the D&D universe though and is swiftly moving on to new projects.

As reported by IGN, Larian founder, Swen Vincke, told panel attendees at GDC that Larian would no longer be working with Wizards of the Coast or handling the Dungeons & Dragons IP. Instead, Larian will be moving on to something new, likely its own original IP, rather than working with a license holder.

This unfortunately means that we won't be getting any major DLCs or expansions for Baldur's Gate 3, despite its massive success and popularity. With that said, it is also one of the most content-rich and replayable RPGs ever made, lessening the need for additional content updates.

While DLC and expansions are out, Baldur's Gate 3 will still get important updates like bug fixes.

KitGuru Says: While the full campaign has only been with us for around half a year, Larian had been working on Baldur's Gate 3 in early access for years leading up to the 2023 launch. When you take that into account, seeing them move onto new creative ventures makes plenty of sense.
