EVLeaks reveals possible first look at Samsung’s Galaxy S9

The Samsung Galaxy S9 series of smartphones is just around the corner, with a launch event planned for the 25th February. It seems that we might have our first proper look at the upcoming devices, as Evan “EVLeaks” Blass is at it again, providing us with renders that echo most of the rumours we've heard so far.

EVLeaks has built such a reputation for himself that it's becoming self-explanatory but for those not in the know, the serial smartphone leaker has an impressive track record of exposing the final designs of flagship smartphones and tablets before their official unveiling.

His render displays the Samsung Galaxy S9 and larger S9+ with edge-to-edge displays, sporting a slim bezel design and many of the curves we've seen on the previous Galaxy S8 model. EVLeaks gave a second update, showcasing the rear cameras of each smartphone. As speculated, the Galaxy S9 will run with a single lens camera and a dual lens camera will be featured on the S9+.

Both cameras will deliver motion-detection and slow-motion video capture alongside variable apertures up to f/1.5 and 12-megapixel primary lenses. The secondary camera featured on the S9+ is similarly 12-megapixels, but instead will operate at a fixed aperture.

Samsung has placed more emphasis on its 8-megapixel front-facing cameras with its new design, opting for its new and improved “selfie mode.” This allows for “animated avatars kinda like animoji” in which EVLeaks jokingly states “with a bit of luck, you'll no longer need to lay out $1,000 to express yourself as a cartoon.”

Lastly, another rumour has started making the rounds suggesting that Samsung will include a feature known as “Intelligent Scan,” as noted by VentureBeat. This is not meant to replace existing features like Iris and Face scanning but instead combines the two to “improve accuracy and security even in low or very bright light,” something of which has been a problem with Apple's famed Face ID in the past.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully Samsung packs enough features into the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ to warrant the purchase as currently, it's looking like an interim replacement for the Samsung Galaxy S8 at best.
