New Overwatch hero hinted to be Torbjörn’s daughter

Official Overwatch pages have been sent into overdrive as of late, dropping hints and teasers at what many suspect to be upcoming hero number 27. Given that already-established hero Torbjörn is the centre of a lot of these, his daughter Brigitte Lindholm is expected to be the one to step up and join the team despite her initial misgivings.

The first teaser came as a declassified after-action report on the official Twitter page, recounting a time in which Torbjörn Lindholm was badly injured in an ambush during operation “White Dome,” and subsequently saved by his brother in arms, Reinhardt Wilhelm. This was the incident in which Torbjörn lost his arm.

Accompanying this is the second teaser of Torbjörn’s letter to his wife while holed up in hospital, recovering from the operation. The main point of the letter was to apologise for not consulting his wife when jokingly saying to Reinhardt that he could name their then-unborn child. While the letter is in Torbjörn’s native Swedish tongue, Blizzard offers an official English translation that can be seen below:

My dear Ingrid,

I know that by now you have gotten news of my injuries in our latest mission. While the descriptions may sound terrible, the doctors are quite sure I'll make a full recovery. Even Angela came to visit me! On the matter of my arm, I promise to make it my first priority to construct a suitable prosthesis that will make everyone forget that it was ever gone. If only Angela's dreams of tissue regeneration were a reality! I told her she should be working harder!

They tell me that you have not yet gone into labor, so I am holding out hope that I will be able to be by your side back home in Gothenburg when the time comes. Just wait a little longer for me!

You may have heard that Reinhardt is responsible for saving my life. I've heard the story at least four different times myself, already, each time more unbelievable than the last. Exaggerations, as you know how he can be. All the same, they've decided to award him a commendation for “conspicuous bravery.” Could two words better describe the big oaf?

He has been bothering me insufferably at my bedside. Half in jest, I suggested that if it would shut him up, I would allow him to name our daughter, as he has been badgering me about it these past months. He, of course, took me at my word. Truth be told, I had been considering making him her godfather, and I hope you'll forgive me for making this decision without your consultation. We can only hope she doesn't take after him too much.

I told him that you would have to agree to any name he chose, so let’s hope it's a good one (though I fear that may be beyond his abilities, given some of the ridiculous names he gives the characters in his “true stories”). I'm getting sick of this hospital, so I am hoping to return soon.

Love,
Torbjörn

The child he is speaking of is expected to be Brigitte Lindholm, who was last seen during an animated short called Honor and Glory advising Reinhardt not to rejoin the Overwatch team as she feels they tossed him aside. Blizzard does have a tendency of showcasing heroes before they are officially announced to appear as a part of the playable roster, as seen with Moira who appeared obscured in a Doomfist comic prior to her launch.

The third and final teaser for the time being is a tweet showcasing the schematics for a new blunt hammer-like weapon called the “Slaga v3.0” that looks similar to something that either Torbjörn or Reinhardt would wield. Within the frame, however, there is also a toy mouse and a ginger paw, presumably from a cat, trying to reach it.

Of course, none of this is set in stone and while Overwatch is right on track to see the release of a new hero, this could simply be updates for those that enjoy the lore of its characters. Take this information with a pinch of salt until Blizzard officially reveal what it has in store.

KitGuru Says: While I am not the biggest Overwatch fan, I do love how Blizzard treats its lore. Even if this was simply attention to detail rather than a new hero dropping, it would still be something that the fans can enjoy. Whoever appears as the next hero, what do you want to see from them?
