Nintendo reinstates Mario’s plumbing licence

Last September, Mario officially retired his plumber profession when his Japanese language biography swapped it out for the numerous other things that the Goomba stomper has done over the years. It turns out that he was just taking a quick vacation, as Mario is back to being a plumber once again.

“All around sporty, whether it’s tennis or baseball, soccer or car racing, he [Mario] does everything cool,” read the new profile in September. “As a matter of fact, he also seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago.”

Fans were undoubtedly upset when the Japanese branch of Nintendo started messing with the character’s famous history, with many continuing to refer to him as a plumber regardless. It seems that these cries have since been heard, as Redditors spotted that the bio had since changed back.

While it has no connection to players’ in-game experience, I personally like to think that Mario simply took a holiday during the time of Super Mario Odyssey, visiting different worlds, sightseeing and exploring the various beaches and tropical climates. It would certainly warrant time off from his regular plumbing job that he never seems to do.

KitGuru Says: Even those outside of gaming tend to know that Mario and Luigi are plumbers, wearing their famous overalls and often trudging the underground. It’s at least a little more believable that someone would pay them to do that job rather than anything sporty. Are you glad that Mario is back in his traditional job role?
