Asus and Acer’s pair of 4K/144Hz gaming monitors may finally arrive in Q3

Early last year, we saw both Asus and Acer announce 4K/144Hz gaming monitors with support for G-Sync and HDR. At the time, we were expecting both displays to launch at some point in 2017 but the months went by and news remained quiet. Now this week, a new report suggests that we may finally see these monitors this year, though much later than initially anticipated.

We don't know the specific cause of the delays for the first 4K/144Hz monitors, but according to TFT Central, we can expect both the Asus PG27UQ and Acer X27 to arrive in Q3 this year. Meanwhile, the previously announced 200Hz ultrawide PG35VQ from Asus and X35 from Acer may finally land in Q4 2018.

Both the 4K/144Hz and 3440×1440/200Hz monitors were announced in the first half of 2017 and have not been spoke of since. We thought that perhaps these monitors would make a second appearance at CES earlier this year, but that did not turn out to be the case. Instead, Nvidia Big Format Gaming Displays were announced, acting as an attempt to bring bigger 65-inch displays to PC gamers in place of the smaller sized monitors we are used to.

We haven't heard any official launch dates for these highly anticipated monitors just yet, but if Q3/Q4 is the target, then hopefully we'll here more in the coming months.

KitGuru Says: I've had my eye on these monitors since covering their announcements in January 2017 and have been wondering about their status ever since. Hopefully we'll get some official information soon. Are any of you planning a monitor upgrade for this year? Do you think you'll go 200Hz ultrawide or 4K/144Hz? Personally, I'm quite torn between the two.
