The Oculus Go VR headset to finally launch in May

It has been almost six months since Facebook first announced the Oculus Go, the company's first standalone VR headset. At the time, it was announced that the headset would launch in 2018 with a $199 price tag. Now, we have a more specific launch date to look forward to, with sources pointing towards a May 1st release date.

Since the Oculus Go's initial announcement, we've learned that there will likely be 32GB and 64GB storage options. We've also heard that the headset will compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 when it comes to virtual reality performance. Now according to Variety, Facebook will launch the headset on the 1st of May, during the F8 conference.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions surrounding the Oculus Go. While we know what hardware will be powering the headset, we don't know what apps or games will be available for it at launch. Hands-on time with the headset has also been limited, so nobody really knows how it will stack up against the competition just yet.

Still, if the May 1st launch date is accurate, then we won't have much longer to wait.

KitGuru Says: Wireless, standalone VR headsets will likely be the best option for tackling the mainstream market, but quality of the experience will be an important factor. Hopefully in May, we'll get some answers as to how good the Oculus Go actually is. Have many of you hopped into VR this year?
